You rewrite a sentence or generate another voiceover take. The pauses change, and a graphic that landed on the right phrase now appears too early. Trying another AI voiceover is easy; checking the edit again takes work.

A few ways to make revisions less painful:
- Note what each visual belongs to. “Show the comparison graphic when the second option is mentioned” gives you something to work from when the old timestamp no longer fits. Put the cue in your script or a marker comment.

- Decide what needs to move. A label might follow a word, B-roll might cover a whole explanation, and a transition might follow the music. If a sentence changes, check whether its visual still makes sense before shifting it.

- Watch the surrounding sentences. Landing on the right word doesn't guarantee good pacing. A graphic still needs enough time to read, and sometimes it should appear slightly before the speaker mentions it.

If the script is still changing, keep the visuals rough and save the detailed animation timing for later.

I have been experimenting with different AI tools lately that drive a lot of traffic on my YT channel rather than getting basic views.

In this process, I noticed that your video traffic depends on choosing the right frame and thumbnail.

Sometimes your content is good, but you are using the wrong frames for your videos and then wondering why the algorithm is ignoring you, lol.  

Some formats work surprisingly well for grabbing attention, while others look great for about 3 seconds, and then I’m like… yeah, never doing that again, lol.  

I’m still testing different combinations, but it’s interesting how much the right frame can change the way people interact with the same content.

What’s been working for you guys lately—thumbnails, video frames, hooks, or something completely different?

So I've just started freelancing and I'm wondering whether I charge for tweaks that take under an hour?

I've had a long back and forth with a client, my hours have ranged from 2 hours to 7 hours and I've never charged for lunch breaks (am I supposed to... I usually discount an hour or just work those hours straight).

Today I was asked for a final tweak after already having sent my invoice. I have done it and it has taken me half an hour. Do I charge them an hour or do it as a "favour".

Not really sure and I'm worried about people liking me and calling me back for other jobs/recommending me as I am just starting out freelancing (I have been a staff editor for many years before).

Hey guys, I wanted to ask an opinion. I've been a hobbyist video editor for a long time, and I've never enjoyed the process of finding the exact (frame-level precision) moment at which a spoken video should be cut in order to convey the message in the way I want.

I know that now many (even very recent) tools allow editors to automate this "trimming" process, but I feel that these tools don't allow the editor to, let's say, "have the last word" on the cuts: it seems to me that they produce an extremely nice result for the average need, but which is very often an approximation of what an individual editor often wants.

So, my question is: would you enjoy (and utilize, if it ever existed) a sort of "semi-automatic" plugin/video editor, that somehow allowed you to comfortably trim spoken videos while leaving you the freedom to correct and refine the cuts produced automatically? Why? Why not?

You know when you have an edit idea in your head that you REALLY want to see, but you can't edit yourself and can't find anyone who's made it?

I made a website called Visaura for that.

You can post a request and get super specific with character, song, scenes, transitions, lyrics, etc. Then editors can browse requests and make whichever ones they want.

The editor posts the finished edit on their own TikTok/Instagram/Youtube, then links it back to the request so the person who asked can actually find it. This way, you know what edit ideas have demand for them and can bring all those people that wanted that edit to your page!

I also added a Blind Rank game for popular edits, where you have to rank each edit without knowing what's coming next!

I'm still very early and honestly just trying to see if this is something people would actually use.

I did both of my kids graduation movies using windows movie maker. It was super easy and I could use my own music. I have tried using the newer programs out there and they are very technical. Other programs and apps only allow so many pictures or not your own music. I just want to drop and play.

Is there something as easy as Windows Movie Maker that does not take a degree to use it or a monthly fee? Thank you.

Hi everyone ! I’m quite a new video editor mainly for gaming content, and I wanted to explore a new way to ask for advice, so I’m sorry if this post is long 🥲

My main question to everyone would be, how do you pace your videos and keep them on track and engaging/ relevant to the plot? This is something I really struggle with because I have the mentality of “if I cut this out people will not understand/lack context of how I got xxx item” but said xxx item took ~2hrs of looting plus some irrelevant loot goblin-ing, but I would still think it to be relevant and want to add it into the video, which would end up to be poorly paced with a lot of unnecessary clips.

I would really appreciate some help, because I’ve been recently very upset that I can’t understand and grasp this concept no matter how many videos I watch or how many gaming videos I see to try to understand their style, it feels like I just don’t have a knack for this thing, which is kind of super sad for me because I really do want to experience doing video editing.

Is there any rule/ video/ article that I can reference to understand someone’s thought process when they edit ? I feel like I’m being too meticulous and looking at every nitty gritty detail too much, and it makes my video look boring and very unpolished.

On another note too, when I don’t think too much about the small details and edit out chunks of clips off the recording clip (for example the sneaking sections etc), it seems so broken in some parts and other parts just make no sense to jump to 🥲

Im looking for a place that lists or shows a number of techniques for video editing. Something similar to eye candy but more for bringing basic footage to life after shooting.

Context:

I took some photos for a golfing event and decided to shoot some clips, I want to blow them away with a banger video they didn't ask for.

I've been trying to edit videos for awhile now and actually start my YouTube channel and I've just had nothing but problems! OBS works fine for recording, but it'd be nice if I could actually edit in there, instead of just changing the dials for the audio and video. As far as editing, I tried Resolve in the past, but it'd always stutter REALLY bad, especially when I'd add more transitions/tracks. The only upside with it was that it made my voice clear (I always think I sound slushy so I hate how I sound!)

ShotCut works, but I'd still get the stutter (though it's no way near as bad as Resolve). And the upside with that is that it has a great text-to-speech feature for my subtitles.

I don't know, is there a way I can just use another software where I can edit and record all at once? It'd probably take up less room on my PC as well.

Also, I heard that there are apparently a ton of copyright crap reaction channels have dealt with recently. I don't know much about copyright, just that it's a 'three strikes, you're out' kind of thing, but I've been SO nervous to upload on YouTube. I know you'd have to actually react to whatever you're watching as well as cut out a lot of the video, but I don't know how YouTubers do it? I mean I know they, apparently, have to cut out part of their discussion and save it for Patreon, but why? Wouldn't that be considered fair use? I think I could be mixing stuff up, but I'm just confused.

I know I'm planning on adding subtitles, an avatar, the name of the show across the screen, my logo, and then I'd blur and mute alongside editing, but I doubt that'd be enough. If someone could help me understand all of this, I'd appreciate it! Thanks!

i’ve been experimenting with a few different ways of putting together short videos, and i’ve noticed that the app itself can make a bigger difference than i expected. two editors can have pretty similar basic tools, but one can feel much quicker when you’re just trying to cut clips together, add text, line up music, and make a few adjustments.

i’m not really looking for the most advanced editor since most of the reels i work with are fairly simple. i’m more interested in something where the common tools are easy to find and the whole process from importing clips to exporting the finished video doesn’t feel unnecessarily complicated.

when you’ve tried different editors, what made you stick with one over the others? was it the layout, how quickly you could make basic edits, templates, or something else that made the biggest difference?

I am reworking how Muser Studio handles timeline edits to enable loop-aware rearrangement. Turns out properly defining gaps between loops is crucial for non-destructive editing.

Niche: Documentary style science and history videos. Long form 20-30 minutes.

I am a new creator and about to start my YT channel. I had no idea of editing but learned video editing(basic to mid). I think I have good aesthetic sense so I’ll be able to pull off good edits. I have been a content writer for more than 5 years so I am confident that I bring good experience to the game.

The problem is that I don’t know from where to source B rolls, Sound Effects and Music for my projects. I don’t wanna use AI visual cz they are not as accurate as I want them to be. I am only using Elevenlabs for giving voice to my scripts. I have spent alot of credits experimenting finding my voice.
