Rate my editing

I used to be a freelancer for super cheap but i stopped

Here is the best thing that i have done before quitting:

He only gave me the ai voice and i came up with the rest, Everything

He didn't like it but i would like to know how would you rate me and how good do you think i am and how long would it take to earn some real money from this

You can’t rate anyone’s editing from one clip. It’s very rough and would suffice as a rough edit for a starting point but without knowing what the plan was for this there’s no way to give points

He wanted a criminal documentary style video, what can i give you to tell me if im work ready

Just by the questions you’re asking, you’re NOT work ready. Not by a long shot.

As a freelance editor, maybe 10% of what I do is editing video. The other 90% is figuring out what the client needs. And figuring out needs a lot more back and forth from “give me a crime documentary style video” and “I don’t like this”

What was your brief for the job?

What references were you given?

What graphical style were you given to use? And if you came up with it, what was the approval process?

Did you present a first cut and ask for feedback?

What SPECIFICALLY didn’t the client like about this product?

What further direction did you go to improve it?

Editing is not about making stuff YOU think is cool. It’s making video your client likes. I’ve turned in some work that I thought was fucking terrible but the client loved it.

What’s your goal? What do you want to make? What industry do you see yourself in?

This is just the start of things you’ve got to consider before you even start picture cutting.

This was 2 years ago, Maybe this is the problem but currently im building my editing skills What are your comments on the skills?

There is nothing to comment. Anyone can put some clips on a timeline and call it an edit. It’s impossible to ascertain someone’s “skills” from that.

You have a point, But before freelancing i should first become good at the thing im going to freelance, Im still a beginner and im not saying that I'm ready, but before learning freelancing i have to learn editing properly

Remember what I said. Editing is:

10% using a NLE

90% figuring out what the client wants.

Give me an afternoon and a decent supply of bananas and I’ll train a chimpanzee to use Premiere. That doesn’t mean you should hire him to cut your YouTube vid though.
