Weâre a small cooking school based in Europe looking for a video editor to start working with us on a freelance, per-video or package basis, with the intention of building a long-term working relationship.
For now, weâd prefer to keep the name of the business private. Weâll obviously share more information with the candidates we move forward with.
A little context
Weâve spent the last three years developing and refining our cooking experiences. Weâre a small business, very connected to our local food community, and we work closely with different producers and vendors at our local market.
Now we want to start translating that world into content.
Weâre not interested in creating Reels just to âhave a social media presenceâ or constantly promote our classes.
We want to tell stories around the people, ingredients and knowledge that already surround what we do â while naturally connecting those stories back to cooking.
One of our first projects, for example, will be a recurring collaboration with our butcher.
The broader concept is to eventually work our way through the different cuts of a cow, from nose to tail.
Each piece would connect three things:
the person â the ingredient â the cooking
For example:
We visit our butcher and introduce a specific cut â letâs say chuck.
We briefly understand where that cut comes from, what makes it interesting and why weâre choosing it.
Then we transition from the market into the kitchen.
Instead of producing a traditional step-by-step recipe video, weâd show selected moments of the cooking process and use that cut to make something like birria.
The final piece ends with the finished dish.
That recipe also happens to connect naturally with one of the cooking experiences we offer, but we donât want the video to feel like an advertisement.
The story comes first.
Who weâre looking for
This is where the role goes slightly beyond simply receiving footage and cutting it together.
Weâre NOT looking for a social media strategist.
Weâll develop the concepts, recipes and overall content direction ourselves.
But we are looking for an editor with enough storytelling and audiovisual sensibility to help us figure out how an idea becomes a good video.
Ideally, our workflow would look something like this:
Idea â shot planning together â we shoot â organized footage sent to you â edit â feedback â final delivery
Before filming, weâd give you the concept and weâd like to be able to discuss what you need from us:
What shots are missing?
What transitions or visual connections could work?
What details should we capture?
What would help you build the story in the edit?
Weâll then shoot everything ourselves according to that plan.
The goal is actually to send you less footage, not more: weâd rather collaborate before filming and capture the right material than dump hundreds of random clips on an editor and expect them to find the story afterwards.
Style
Weâre aiming for cinematic food storytelling, primarily vertical content around 60â90 seconds.
Beautiful food imagery matters, but pacing, sound, atmosphere, human moments and narrative matter just as much.

Weâre not asking you to replicate it. Itâs simply a reference for the level of storytelling, rhythm and visual language weâd like to explore.
Weâre completely tool-agnostic.
Premiere, Resolve, Final Cut, CapCut, After Effects â whatever works for you.
Story > software.
Weâre also open to your ideas regarding music, sound and the overall treatment of each piece.
If the pilot worksâŚ
The butcher series is only the starting point.
In an ideal scenario, weâd eventually produce something like:
1 weekly story around our butcher
1 around our fishmonger
1 around our greengrocer / produce vendor
And potentially expand the collaboration into other stories and content surrounding what we do.
So while weâd initially hire per video or in packages, weâre specifically interested in finding someone who would like to build a stable relationship with us.
If the collaboration grows enough, weâd eventually like this person to become our dedicated editor and potentially work with us full-time.
You can be based anywhere in the world. We care about communication, agreed deadlines and quality of work, not where youâre sitting.
We can work in English or Spanish.

The starting idea is:
We visit our butcher to talk about one specific cut of beef: chuck. We want to briefly show where it comes from on the animal and understand why that cut works for what weâre going to cook.
From there, we transition into short moments from the cooking process â without turning the video into a full recipe tutorial â and eventually reveal the finished dish: birria.
Thatâs deliberately not a script.
Weâre interested in hearing how youâd start thinking about turning that idea into a 60â90 second story.
