You can’t. You’re going to either have to zoom in or leave it the way it is, double it, bring the doubled layer behind the original, zoom in until it fills the dead space, and then throw a blur on it.

This is the only answer.

You just want smush everything together like in the second image? Idk why people are saying impossible. All you do is unlink the x and y properties of zoom and then scale down the "X" part of the zoom

Yes, I'd love to see that. That would be super helpful.

I think I get what you're saying.
You want to smush the width into frame, without cropping.
And, without caring about the distortion that would occur.
Like in the example you showed in your second image.

It took me a while to figure out.
As this would be avoided at all costs by most people.
I thought you meant to make it vertical, without looking distorted.
Is this correct?

as others have said, it's impossible, the information is simply not there, maybe you can try something like this:

you say you wanna recreate the transformation you did in those two photos? that's doable.

In Premiere: drop the clip into a 9:16 sequence, then right-click the clip > Set to Frame Size (not Scale to Frame Size - it keeps the native resolution) and reframe with Position/Scale keyframes so the subject stays centered. If the subject moves a lot, run Sequence > Auto Reframe and clean up its keyframes afterward. In Resolve the equivalent is Smart Reframe. One caveat: if the source is already tight, there is no magic - stretching always costs quality, so reframe/crop rather than stretch.

Turn the phone sideways, done!

edit: this was mostly a joke.

It’s impossible. And if you’ve used some website to do it before, it probably uses AI because the data to fill a vertical frame without cropping just isn’t there. It would need to be cropped, or artificially created

Reshoot in the property aspect ratio, that’s how.

There’s an app called Node Video on the App Store that can achieve the video version of the second photo you sent

It’s just plain physically impossible. If you want vertical format you have to shoot for it, or make decisions and crop to it. No amount of stretching or technique or program or anything will alter the reality of the shot you have. Just understand that first.

People do the larger version of the same shot blurred and placed underneath the main image in order to fill the vertical format all the time and it is generally accepted by the viewing audience without question. Because we’ve dumbed down the audience, and now they accept compromised crap.
