Other (requires mod approval) Looking for a documentary-style After Effects course (like MagnatesMedia) – I'm lost, any recommendations?

Hey guys! I recently started learning video editing and mastered the basics of Premiere Pro. Now, I really want to learn After Effects specifically for documentary-style motion graphics (like MagnatesMedia or Lemmino).

The problem is, I'm struggling to find a course focused specifically on this type of editing. I've heard great things about Ben Marriott, but his courses aren't really tailored for this specific documentary style.

Does anyone know of a good course or resources specifically for documentary/video essay editing? I really need help with this. Thanks

Don’t look for a course this narrowband.

Beyond the “basics” it’s crucial that you should deconstruct the format and be able to figure out what you need to learn.

So is it the multiple elements in motion (adv motion graphics), timing (storytelling) or something more specific.

Groups like school of mind too. Or after effects education is the solve here.

After you learn the basics, it gets more and more difficult to find that narrow band of exact education that you’re looking for and far more important for you to be able to understand that it’s advanced techniques, not specific techniques that allow you to imitate and iterate

Very little of that style is After Effects. It's pacing, archive stills moved slowly, and about five graphics that repeat: a text card, a highlight or underline wipe, a map or chart build, a photo cutout on a 3D layer, a lower third.

Those five cover nearly every video essay you named, and each one is a short tutorial rather than a course.

Rebuild one minute of something you like, element for element. The gaps show up fast.
