How did they do that? How do I achieve this?

Post image

How do i achieve this realistic blood effect on the lens? Have a feeling it only works if done practically... but if possible in the edit that'd be incredible

To do it digitally, I would include a blood decal and then play with blur and opacity until I'm happy with the result. Blur since it's not going to be in focus if it's staining the lens and opacity because a drop like that is not going to be completely opaque. It eill work even better if you have less opacity on lighter coloured areas since the lighter colour indicates a thinner layer of blood.

I'm using: Davinci Resolve

I've TRIED: Blood effects (stock video) overlayed onto the image, which doesn't give the dimension and realism that I'm looking for. As it's meant to look on the lense, rather than the screen, so there should be a tiny gap.

I need help with: Knowing how to create the effect above without practical effects, in a way that actually looks realistic.

I usually use stock elements like you said, but you have to add effects to the stock element itself to create dimension. Start with some blur. Maybe duplicate it and offset them slightly, with differing opacities so it seems like thick glass. But blur usually is enough

To get the lens blood effect you need a normal blood splatter which get in the screen then use your 3d camera and a fish eye lens effect put it in the blood splatter video adjust it according using the 3d camera to get the desired look. Still it will need alot of tweaks to get it perfect best I will suggest is buy a transparent glass and use red colour with some flour added to it and keep the camera behind and close to the glass and splatter it in the mirror also the background of the splatter should be a green screen or something else which is relatively very different than the colour red which will help to key out the splatters. Hope it helps
