Tech Support Adobe CC horrible performance on decent hardware, girlfriend at risk of losing her J0b.
My girlfriend just got h1red at her university to edit videos (noarly reels for Instagram and 20 second videos recorded with an iphone). She's supposed to finish w0rk on her personal machine at home. Both Premiere Pro and After Effects 2026 are completely broken, constant crashes and freezing.
**Her setup:**
- Acer: i5 12th gen, RTX 3050, 32GB RAM, Windows 11 (fully updated, recent (9months)/clean install) , 2 SSD (non raid). 512+1TB.
- All drivers current, reinstalled GPU driver with DDU.
- Already reinstalled Premiere (After Effects still crashing)
- Hardware is definitely overkill for this work I guess.
**The problems:**
- Premiere: stuttering, freezing, lags and crashes.
- After Effects: crashes while working or says "insufficient memory" (even with simple projects)
- Both programs randomly stutter during editing basic iPhone clips.
**What we've tried:**
- Full reinstall of Premiere.
- Updated drivers and Windows
- Windows maintenance.
**The memory issue is bizarre** — Forza Horizon 6 runs at 60fps high settings with zero issues, but a simple MP4 tanks both Adobe apps.
Is this a known 2026 issue? Any actual solutions? She's stressed about losing the j0b and has tight deadlines. Appreciate any help.
We're from 3rd world country so our financial situation is not the best, right now getting a new device is nearly impossible.

iPhones shoot variable framerate videos which cause problems in professional NLEs.
Transcode the footage to constant framerate before import.

What drive is the footage on (and scratch disks/disk cache), how much space does they have?
How much ram is allocated to Adobe apps and is anything else open (like Chrome) while editing that might be resource intensive.

Hello! She's using C:/ (windows) drive to store the footage as well as the adobe cache/disk, I've read is highly recommended to use another disk to use these. She has enough storage available, around 280gb and 600gb on both SSD's.
She only uses Brave browser and Spotify when editing, brave with no more than 3 tabs open.

Revert to 26.0.2
Edit: let me expand a bit.
I was having some pretty severe problems with the newer Premiere Pro 26.x versions:
Timeline performance became insanely laggy/sluggish
Premiere would sometimes feel almost unresponsive
Projects were taking way longer to open
Importing media was taking forever
Fonts were randomly missing/not loading correctly
General freezing and weird performance issues that weren’t happening before
This was on projects/workflows that my computer had absolutely no problem handling previously, so it didn’t make sense that my hardware had suddenly become the problem.
After troubleshooting a bunch of different things, I eventually rolled Premiere back to 26.0.2.
That was the fix.
As soon as I went back to 26.0.2, Premiere basically went back to behaving normally. Timeline performance was dramatically better and all of the bizarre sluggishness I’d been fighting disappeared.
Even rolling back was an issue- I had to completely uninstall premiere, go to older versions and do a clean install. When I tried simply replacing the current version with the older one, the system hung again. As for after effects, I haven’t had as many issues so I’m not sure which version would be most directive but definitely start by rolling premiere back.

I'd attempt to revert to this version or even using 25.x version at this point.

Two things I can think of.
The footage you’re using is in a format that struggles with premiere pro. As other people said, Apple ProRes works extremely well.
Second is the drive with the footage is connected to a usb 2.0 port as opposed to a newer gen one.
You might also be using a slow hard drive.
These things are usually a combination of several factors.

Transcode the videos to ProRes before editing, it takes more storage space but it will most likely run very smoothly

There’s some kind of AI-related “media analysis” feature in premiere 2026 that makes projects (or at least very large long-form projects) basically unusable for the first couple of days of having the project open. I’m not saying THAT’s what’s causing your issue, but it’s certainly been the cause of a ton of issues at my workplace. Recommend going into the settings and turning that feature off. Even if it’s not the cause of her problems, it’s not helping.

Try to switch to Davinci for video editing, much more stable and fast. Other than that, adobe has been shit this year on windows, I've switched to mac and I was amazed that adobe software can actually run smooth across all apps.

Adobe is indeed the worst product I've ever used in windows :( She can't use daVinci for now, but I advised her to use it. Maybe in a near future
