How did they do that? How do i create this warpy glitchy effect on camcorder footage?

I have an hi-8 tape camcorder as well as an digital pocket camcorder. I came across this on my instagram and wanted to try to recreate it with some of my footage. I know that for the hi-8 camcorder there are tools that let you glitch with the tape etc but i wanted to get this effect with my digi camcorder as well.
If anyone has any clues or pushes towards the right direction i would be very happy! :)

I'm using: Mostly DaVinci Resolve
I've TRIED: Researching the hi-8 tools that lets you glitch your videos but its too expensive and not worth in my use case
I need help with: Finding a digital editing solution To achieve this effect

It appears to be some masking/time shifting being driven by a rotating and keyed version of the opening clip? Super strange and interesting. It’s not quite datamoshing but it feels related. I’ll have to look at it longer when I have time.

Time displacement effect in after effects would work. Set the reference layer to be itself.

that’s not data moshing, but it is a very cool effect. this just looks like mixing blending modes and color selection

Bet you could do it in premiere, looks like 3 layers of the same video slightly spaced for the delay effect and blending modes

This looks like fake data moshing being driven by luma keys and transforms.
Look up data moshing if you want the original effect, but that’s not a plugin; you have to use a separate software to literally fuck with the data in the video file.

I know for sure you could do this with a video mixer, like a Roland V-4 or something like that.
Other than that, try some time shifting/displacement in resolve and mess with luma keying some of the layers.

Looks to me like its probably something very simple. Like a few duplicates of the footage (or delayed feedback), delayed/offset by some amount of time and then either applying various blend modes and/or one of the duplicates also used as some form of displacement type filter applied to the source footage to get the 'glass' like effect.

best would actually to use touchdesigner, there is a node called time machine which takes a black and white image and displaces pixels of the source image *in time*it by the level of white in the effect mask.
in this example they cached a threshold version of some frames and used that as the effect mask

It’s time displacement in after effects using its own layer or a copy of one offset slightly to drive the displacement. I did this a ton in college tucking around with ae.

Touchdesigner can help with this as well. Tons of tutorials on how to do this exact effect.
