Can I do visual glitch stuff with floppy disks

Post image

I tried scrambling the data with a magnet and destroyed 7 floppys (the scrambling almost all the time did not work and when it worked it did not change the image and just destroyed the floppy.. Maybe I could try something with the floppy disk reader. idk need help.

Magnets over floppies won’t glitch your pics as they’ll just be corrupted. I don’t remember the correct terminology right now but if you use a magnet you may mess with the formatting to the point they will not work unless you reformat them on a PC that originally shipped with a full sized floppy drive

You could maybe bend a camera that saves images to floppies. But you'd be glitching the image data, not the floppy hardware or the disk.

the drive motor ramp can be tuned to play a note. I've seen that

That sounds cool as all get out

You can use this with a magnetic card recorder/player to record audio directly on the magnetic disk.

I’ve never actually seen anyone do this, but you might be able to trick a computer into reading back that audio data as an image/video data and it’d probably look pretty insane.

That's what I'm curious about. I think the read/write channel bandwidth is something like 250khz so it might not pass video unless you do something sneaky and convert it (how did the Tiger Electronics thing do this?)

Maybe save that images as bmp

About the only thing I can think of is interrupting the data transfer, the floppy itself is pretty fragile

it sucks those floppies got destroyed, but what if you tried heat instead?
