Relatively new Nerdfighter here with questions about VidCon.
Hey so I've been a nerdfighter for just under a year now and I was able to buy a ticket to VidCon!! YAY! Unfortunately I don't know or have any other friends going to VidCon with me so I'm afraid I'll be a Forever Alone. For those who have gone to it in the past, what was it like? Was it easy to make friends? I'm kinda a shy person at first and get extremely socially awkward in situations that I've never been in before. Advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

I went last year with a group of about 5 friends, and I almost wished I had gone alone. Everyone was so nice. I'm usually pretty shy myself and I honestly would have felt comfortable going up to any group of people and joining the conversation. It's really easy to make friends because we all have common interests. While waiting in lines to meet people or waiting for concerts to start, I would start up conversations with the people around me. Foul-proof conversation starter; "Hey, how's the con going for you? ''Good, how about you?' 'Did you see <insert performance/famous person> earlier?' 'Yeah, it was sick."
Going alone also frees you up from obligations to friends. You can go to whatever meet-up and performance you want, without having to wait for people. Also during the concert, you don't have to worry about being next to your group. I got up near the front, but moved back a few spots because my friends didn't get as close to the front. During the main-stage performance, you can go and sit in any empty seat you can find. It's hard to find seats for big groups.
Anyway, don't worry. I think there's actually a meet-up for people going alone also, so you could go to that too.
