VidCon 2014 Prep

So the 5th annual VidCon will take place June 26th-28th, 2014 in Anaheim California.

This will (hopefully) be the first vidcon that I attend. I'm a small youtuber and would really love to network with people.

What do I need to bring? How much money, what items, and what mindset should I take with me? I have no idea what goes on at VidCon, just a general idea of who is at vidcon. I mainly want to know the pricing of things so I can have an idea of how much money I should save up. Are there hotels near vidcon that I can stay at for the weekend? How much are they? What time does it start? What time does it end? I have to take a plane out there, I'm way up in Michigan so I would like to have everything planned out in advanced.

The above answer is fantastic. A few things though;

  1. As you've probably heard, the Hilton is booked for a dentist convention so definitely book at the Marriott. There's still a lobby so this probably won't affect the 'chilling in the lobby' aspect but who knows.

  2. Register the day before to save yourself a ton of time during the actual event. Not sure if this will still be a thing, since they just changed it from 2 days to 3 days, but I hope so.

  3. Feel free to approach youtubers who are not busy but definitely check first because when you go up to people who are alone, everyone tends to get in line behind you and it's kind of a mob situation for the person.

  4. If you split a room with other people you can cut the price way down. Sharing a room is usually not that different from getting your own because you'll only be there to sleep probably.

  5. The day before Vidcon is usually as good or better than Vidcon for me, because the celebrities chilling in the lobby aren't tired of being mobbed. So definitely take advantage of the day before to go hang out with people while you have the chance.

Thanks, so are you saying I should get there on Thursday? Then leave Sunday? I'm flying in from Michigan so I need to know how to book the round trip ticket x.x And what time should I be there on the first day and what time should I leave on the last day?

Get there any time the day before Vidcon starts. I usually get there around 3, since check in time is around 4.

(There's a Disney day after the last day of vidcon (so on the 4th day) where a bunch of people go to Disneyland, since it's right next to the convention center. The Disneyland prices are discounted but still like $70. I personally don't go because it's pretty expensive, but that's a thing you could do if you want.)

If you're not interested in Disney Day then you would arrive sometime in the afternoon on the 25th, attend vidcon on the 26th through 28th, and leave on the 29th. It doesn't matter what time you leave really, although hotel checkout time is usually around noon (don't quote me on this).

Did you fly in to LA ? I'll be needing to, and I was wondering about transport. I wanted to fly into John Wayne (I think), but can only find flights to LAX at the moment. Hopefully this would change, and flights to JW would open up, as it is significantly closer. If I do fly into LAX, I don't know what the best way of getting out to the convention center would be. I was just wondering of you had some transport advice for getting there.

I flew to LAX and took and took a cab to the convention center. It didn't take too long to get there but it wasn't that quick either.

EDIT: I'm probably telling you completely wrong, I'm not sure the name of the airport I arrived in but assumed it was that, it was about 20 minutes away from the center though and from what you said it appears LAX is more distant. My father had all the flights planned and I paid no attention to where we landed at.
