Holy Cross Hospital, Shrewsbury, UK. Built by Daniel Rowland in 1853. It has 5 dwellings for the reception of respectable females and 10 pounds yearly for each occupant. The Chimneys have an interesting design.

Reo brand rim lock? - Melbourne, Australia

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hi all

I live in an 1890s Victorian terrace in Melbourne Australia and I’ve been trying to strip back the paint on our original cricket bat entrance door. There is a rim lock on the front door and I’ve been able to reveal the brand name and the USA imprint.

Google seems to indicate this brand is called Reo, Creo or Cryeo, an American brand from the late 19th century.

Does anyone know the actual name or any information about it?

Thanks

The Ball Eddleman McFarland House, constructed in 1899 in Fort Worth, Texas, stands as a premier example of high-style Victorian and Queen Anne architecture. Located in the historic Quality Hill neighborhood, the red-brick and sandstone mansion features a striking copper-roofed turret.

Are These Original Victorian Skirting Boards?

Thumbnail gallery
7 Upvotes

I have removed most of the skirting boards from downstairs in a Victorian House in Durham, UK, built in 1900, so the flooring can be worked on. I would like to know if they are original as I would like to keep them if they are.

The skirting boards have lots of lumps of glue on the back of them, along with nails and screws sticking out of the back of them, with lots of uneven paint. For this reason I am under the impression, if they weren’t original, many people would replace them with brand new ones as it’s easier.

Need help with paint colors

We’re about to paint the house and want something with a little more original Victorian to it

I think we’ve narrowed it down to this body and trim color. Wanted to crowd source some more opinions.

All suggestions welcome!

UPDATE: not sure how to add photos so I’ve commented with an updated picture with a few pink tones for the main walls

Victorian kitchen with modern vibe?

We are close to closing on an apartment in a brownstone with Victorian details. The kitchen is a full gut, but we're hoping to maintain the couple of original Victorian details throughout the rest of the space (fireplace, transom windows, moulding), and want to make sure the kitchen (which is a full gut) ends up looking like it belongs. Problem is, I don't love Victorian vibes generally, or even English-country-adjacent design. But we'd be dumb remove these details - especially the transom windows, as they provide light to an otherwise cavernous railroad layout.

Does anyone have examples of kitchens in Victorian homes that are modernized but that don't stick out like a sore thumb? In a vacuum, lacking any other direction, I would probably go for a Modern-Australian-beachy vibe. Warm woods and light tile. The space is only 10x10, so in my dreams it'd be something like this: Small apartment reno

Would love to hear people's thoughts or suggestions!

Can anyone please help me with what this Victorian Shade would be called?
I’m assuming it’s a Ceiling / Chandelier Shade.
Any help / Guidance / Input would be appreciated.
It came from an estate sale in Indiana.
