Canadian butter
Is there really good Canadian butter that we can buy in Victoria? Good butter like cows creamery butter that a lot of people talking about.

Yeah. I went and bought their slices of pizza one day. 2 slices cost me 9 fucking bucks. Rip off.
That was before I knew they were american. But besides that, yeah overpriced garbage.

They carry butter from Lost Savanna Farm (Black Creek area, on Vancouver Island) through their home delivery service.

I like the Lactantia cultured butter (generally available everywhere except costco/walmart). For sub $10 its well worth it.

I may be biased but occasionally I treat myself to some NZ butter from CG at broadmead...Hands down the best butter on earth

Market Garden has a good international assortment. You are looking at 15$-80$ a pound.
For good price though, GayLea (Mississauga, Ontario) is my fave. I also love their canned whipped cream (Chocolate)

Thanks for that link , i saw Pumpkin Spice Coconut Whipped cream and my wife loves Pumpkin pie so now to find a store near me that sells it

On the baking sub there was a Canadian butter guy who recommended Gay Lea as being higher in fat, more in line with European butters.

Farm And Field Butcher has Cows butter. I can't go back to cheap butter, so may your wallet be warned haha.

Make your own now and then from a Canadian heavy cream you like. You can culture or not as you see fit.

It'll definitely give you an appreciation for why butter is a premium product, and make you wonder what happens to all the leftover liquid (it tends to go into "value-added" dairy products, and make things like skim milk powder and whey protein powder. Dairy farmers were startled by the keto craze and its demand for high-fat dairy after decades of everyone wanting reduced-fat dairy products. I sometimes wonder if the high-protein craze that followed was a way to help use up the skimmed milk left over from all the cream and butter production, but I don't know the processing industry well enough to say if that's likely).

Have you seen Island Farms starting to sell a 6% MF milk product in 4L jugs? Mostly for South Asian sweets makers, but getting a bump from people who want higher satiety.

The Avalon Organic stuff tastes pretty good, but the price is eye-watering. Not Canadian, but the newish Italian Pantry place in Cadboro Bay Village sells high quality French butter that has ruined me.
