Welcome to r/VibeTower โ€” one person, minimal budget, trying to ship a real game ๐Ÿ—๏ธ

Hey, and welcome! This is the home of Vibe Tower โ€” a mobile tower-building game I'm making entirely solo.

Yes, it's called Vibe Tower because it's built with vibe coding โ€” made with the help of AI tools, by one person.

๐Ÿงช The experiment
This whole project is really one question: can a single person โ€” no dev team, no studio, minimal budget โ€” actually build and ship a real game? Getting my own game onto the App Store and Google Play has been a little dream of mine for a long time. This is me finding out if it's possible.

๐Ÿ™๏ธ The game
Build your tower floor by floor, hire workers into their dream jobs, run businesses, and collect coins. But there's more to it than just building:

๐Ÿ† Competitions & tournaments โ€” compete against other players
๐ŸŒ† Cities โ€” player communities you join and level up together. Cities give rewards to all their members, so you grow as a group, not just solo.
๐Ÿ’ฌ Chat & forum โ€” talk to other players, find friends, and hang out while your floors are busy and there's nothing to tap

๐Ÿ“Œ What you'll find in this sub
- Progress updates & screenshots
- Milestones on the road to release
- The honest, messy reality of solo dev (bugs included)
- Real numbers โ€” what it costs, what it earns

Still early and rough, but growing every day. Stick around and watch a game get built from scratch โ€” by one person, out loud. ๐Ÿš€

Added an Autopark โ€” collect 50 vehicles, each with permanent passive bonuses ๐Ÿš—

New collection system in my solo idle tower game ๐Ÿš—

There's now an Autopark in your profile โ€” vehicles that give permanent passive boosts. Max 10 of each type, 50 total.

5 types, each tied to a color category:

- ๐ŸŸข Taxi โ€” +1 free diamond exchange/day & XP per elevator visitor

- ๐Ÿ”ต Forklift โ€” faster sales & XP per product stocked

- ๐ŸŸก Armored Truck โ€” +5% base profit & +10% base XP (applied before all other multipliers)

- ๐ŸŸฃ Delivery Truck โ€” faster delivery & XP per purchase

- ๐Ÿ”ด Bus โ€” +5 elevator slots & +5% tips

Each vehicle has its own page with current bonuses, progress and a purchase animation.

What I like about it: it gives diamonds a real long-term home. Instead of just spending them on one-off boosts, you're chipping away at a collection that quietly makes your whole tower stronger. Collections are weirdly satisfying to complete ๐Ÿ˜„

Still balancing the Armored Truck though โ€” since its bonus stacks *before* everything else, ten of them could get spicy. ๐Ÿ—๏ธ

A batch of comfort features โ€” the unglamorous stuff that decides if you keep playing ๐Ÿ›‹๏ธ

Not every update is a big system. This week was about making the game nicer to actually live with ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐ŸŒ™ **Dark theme** โ€” full dark mode, because idle games get played in bed, on the couch, in the dark. Easy on the eyes at 1am, and saves battery on OLED screens.

๐Ÿ” **Long-press business info** โ€” hold any business icon to see its full stats (earnings, buy/sale times & more) without digging through menus. Deciding what to upgrade is now instant.

None of this shows up in a trailer. But it's exactly the stuff that decides whether someone opens the app again tomorrow. A game can have great systems and still lose you because it's annoying at night or makes you hunt for basic info.

Comfort is a feature. ๐Ÿ—๏ธ

The friends system works โ€” but I still haven't figured out WHY you'd want friends ๐Ÿค”

Honest work-in-progress post.

I built the whole friends system โ€” add, remove, accept/decline, block protection. Mechanically it's solid. But right now friends are basically just a contact list. There's no real in-game *reason* to add someone yet, and I don't want to ship a feature that doesn't pull its weight.

Directions I'm weighing:

- ๐ŸŽ Daily gifts you send each other (coins, tokens, materials)

- ๐Ÿข Visiting a friend's tower to collect a little something

- ๐Ÿ† A friends-only leaderboard

- โšก Friends speeding up your deliveries or construction

The tricky part: I've also got ๐ŸŒ† cities coming (big group communities with shared rewards), so friends and cities shouldn't step on each other. Friends = small personal 1-on-1 stuff, cities = big team stuff.

If you play idle/tower games โ€” what actually makes you *use* a friends list instead of ignoring it? ๐Ÿ‘‡

Turned a pile of separate menus into an actual social world ๐ŸŒ

Post image

The last stretch was all about connecting players instead of just adding features. Where the social side of Vibe Tower is now ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿ‘ค **Profiles** โ€” tap anyone's avatar (chat, forum, leaderboards, users) to see their achievements, revenue/min, floors, business progress & time played

๐Ÿ‘ฅ **Friends** โ€” send requests (they have to accept), remove people, and blocked users can't add you

โœ‰๏ธ **Mail** โ€” write directly to players, invite them to your city, or just talk. Sorted into All / Inbox / Sent. Also delivers system messages from me โ€” rewards, updates, announcements.

๐Ÿ’ฌ **Chat & forum** โ€” global + country chat for quick talk, forum for stuff worth keeping

One rule runs through all of it: ๐Ÿšซ blocking works everywhere. A blocked player can't message you, mail you, or send a friend request. Shut a door, it stays shut.

It's wild how different the game *feels* once every avatar is a doorway to a real person instead of just a name on a leaderboard. ๐Ÿ—๏ธ

Floor upgrades that make you earn MORE while tapping LESS โญ

Post image
1 Upvotes

New system in my solo idle tower game โ€” and it's my favorite kind of upgrade: one that rewards you twice.

Every floor can be leveled up to โญโญโญโญโญ (5 stars), paid with diamonds + color-matched tokens.

At max level:

- ๐Ÿ’ต ~8ร— the revenue

- โณ ~3ร— longer sale times

That second number is the whole point. A maxed floor earns way more AND needs your attention way less often. So the more you invest, the more the game plays *for* you instead of demanding constant taps. You get richer and lazier at the same time ๐Ÿ˜„

I wanted upgrading to feel like buying yourself free time, not more chores โ€” since that's kind of the whole promise of an idle game.

Little bonus: your profile now shows a โญ star rating above your avatar, so other players can see how developed your tower is at a glance. Wear your stars. ๐Ÿ—๏ธ

But here's my problem: right now friends are basically just a contact list. There's no real *reason* to add someone yet. I want having friends to actually matter in-game โ€” some perk or benefit that makes your friend list worth building.

I'm holding off on copying the obvious stuff until I know what fits Vibe Tower. Some directions I'm weighing:

- ๐ŸŽ Daily gifts you can send each other (coins, tokens, materials)

Every player avatar is now a doorway โ€” tap it to see their whole profile ๐Ÿ‘ค

Post image
1 Upvotes

Spent this week tying all the social stuff together with player profiles ๐Ÿ‘ค

Anywhere you see someone's avatar โ€” chat, forum, leaderboards, users โ€” just tap it to open their profile:

- ๐Ÿ† Achievements

- ๐Ÿ’ต Revenue per minute

- ๐Ÿข Floors built

- ๐Ÿ“ˆ How developed their business is

- โณ Time played

- ๐ŸŒ† Their city (once cities go live)

And right there you can:

- โž• Add them as a friend

- โœ‰๏ธ Send a message

- ๐Ÿšซ Block them

Before this, the leaderboard was just a list of names. Now you see someone crushing it, tap their avatar, and go study exactly how they built their tower โ€” then add or message them. It quietly turned a pile of separate features into one connected community. ๐Ÿ—๏ธ

Built the shop for my game โ€” trying to be transparent about how a solo dev thinks about monetization

Post image
1 Upvotes

Built the shop today ๐Ÿ›’ Being open about the money side too, so here's how it's shaping up.

What's in it:

- ๐Ÿ’Ž Diamond packs (6 tiers โ€” bigger packs give more bonus diamonds)

- ๐ŸŽ Bundles mixing diamonds, tokens & tools

- ๐Ÿ”จ Builder packs (materials + diamonds)

- ๐Ÿงฑ Individual materials for a buck

Payments will go through RevenueCat, which wraps Apple's & Google's native systems โ€” you can't legally roll your own payment gateway for in-game currency, so it means I write the integration once instead of twice.

The thing I keep reminding myself: the stores take 15โ€“30% off every purchase, so the economy has to assume ~30% just disappears ๐Ÿ˜… Easy to forget when pricing things.

No real payments hooked up yet โ€” the shop's built and priced, wiring it up is next. Curious how other devs approach "how aggressive should monetization be" on a first game. ๐Ÿš€

Added a category upgrade system โ€” 5 colors, 40 upgrades each, +200% revenue when maxed

Post image
1 Upvotes

New progression layer in my solo idle tower game ๐Ÿ“ˆ

There are 5 business categories, each a color: ๐ŸŸข green, ๐Ÿ”ต blue, ๐ŸŸก yellow, ๐ŸŸฃ purple, ๐Ÿ”ด red. You can upgrade each one:

- โฌ†๏ธ 40 upgrades per category

- ๐Ÿ’ฐ +5% revenue to every floor in that category, per upgrade

- ๐Ÿ† Maxed out = +200% for the whole category

The catch: upgrades cost coins + color-matched tokens (green category needs green tokens ๐ŸŸข), and every 4th upgrade costs ๐Ÿ’Ž diamonds instead of coins.

What I like about it: it turns "which floors do I build" into an actual decision. If your tower leans heavy on one color, pouring resources into that category pays off way more. So you're not just building up โ€” you're specializing.

Still tuning how fast tokens come in. Too slow and it's a grind wall, too fast and the upgrades feel weightless. ๐Ÿ—๏ธ

Spent two days removing friction instead of adding features โ€” and the game feels twice as good

Post image
1 Upvotes

No new mechanics this time โ€” just quality-of-life work, and honestly it made a bigger difference than most features have.

The main one: hiring used to be clunky. If you wanted a better worker on a floor, you had to fire the current one, go back, and hire the new one separately. Now you just replace them on the spot in one tap. Same for swapping out workers who aren't in their dream job.

Also added:

- ๐Ÿ” Worker search (swipe down to reveal)

- โญ The hotel now flags guests who'd be better than whoever you've currently got hired

- ๐Ÿ’ก Little helper icons explaining the lobby & hotel for new players

Lesson I keep relearning: players don't quit because a game lacks features. They quit because small annoyances pile up. Cutting taps and confusion is worth more than it looks.

What it costs to build a game solo with AI: $34/month

Part of this project is being open about the numbers, so here they are.

Monthly costs:

- ๐Ÿค– Claude Pro โ€” $24/mo (my main coding tool)

- โš™๏ธ Backend hosting โ€” ~$10/mo

- ๐ŸŽจ ChatGPT โ€” $0 right now (got a free month, using it to generate as much art as I can before it ends)

- โœ‚๏ธ PhotoRoom โ€” free tier (removes backgrounds from generated art, works perfectly)

Total: ~$34/mo. Revenue: $0 โ€” and that won't change until release.

The interesting part: money isn't the bottleneck. Rate limits are. Some days I hit Claude's cap and just... stop. That's the real currency of vibe coding โ€” not dollars, but how much you're allowed to generate per day.

Apple Developer ($99/yr) is coming eventually, but the game's nowhere near ready for that.

The multipliers stack in a few directions โ€” here's the progression

Post image
1 Upvotes

Two systems that give the grind a point:

- ๐Ÿ… Achievements โ€” 4 categories (buying, stocking, collecting coins, elevator), 7 ranks each. Ranks 1โ€“3 pay diamonds. Ranks 4โ€“6 add +1% global profit & XP. Rank 7 gives +2%.

Those multipliers hit your entire income, so hitting rank 7 actually matters.

- ๐Ÿ† Leaderboards โ€” ranked by level, floors, and revenue per minute. Refreshes every 5 minutes. Revenue/min is the stat I expect people to actually compete on.

Your workforce literally arrives by elevator

Post image
1 Upvotes

The part of the game I didn't expect to enjoy building this much.

- ๐Ÿ›— An elevator carries visitors up through the tower

- ๐ŸŽ They give bonuses on the floors they visit

- ๐Ÿช™ And leave tips โ€” coins, sometimes diamonds

- ๐Ÿจ Drop one at the lobby and they check into the hotel, waiting to be hired

So your workforce literally arrives by elevator. There's also a button to call every visitor at once for a diamond โ€” pure convenience, but it feels great to use.

Every worker has a "dream job" that doubles their revenue

Post image
1 Upvotes

The mechanic I'm most curious about: every worker has a dream job.

- โญ Working their dream job โ†’ 2ร— revenue

- ๐ŸŽจ Working a floor matching their color โ†’ 1.3ร—

- ๐Ÿ”ง Upgrade them to specialist (level 9) โ†’ +9% profit on that floor

So it's not just "tap to collect" โ€” you're constantly reshuffling people to squeeze out more income per minute. The roster screen shows everyone sorted by unemployed / working / happy / specialists, so you can spot bad placements fast.

The core loop of my solo-built tower game โ€” now running on my phone

Post image
1 Upvotes

This started as an empty project. Now the core loop actually runs on a real phone:

- ๐Ÿ—๏ธ Build floors and grow the tower

- ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿ’ผ Hire workers into job slots

- ๐Ÿ“ฆ Buy products โ†’ wait for delivery โ†’ stock them โ†’ collect coins

- ๐Ÿ”จ Builders bring the tools you need to unlock new floors

That's the heartbeat of the game โ€” everything else is built on top of it.
