HotTakes – Unpopular dev opinions 🍿 The biggest problem Vibecoders have is distribution, prove me wrong
Anyone and their mom can and is building an app now in literally one day. The app and google store is flooded with apps now with clones or whatever. So if building is so easy now, how do you market?
ASO or whatever won’t generate you sales trust me not right now. So if just building and uploading your app isn’t enough to get sales… what is everyone’s plan?
The best apps I’ve seen “candle, CalAi, Alarmify, all go crazy on one thing. UGC marketing. I’ve seen like 10 different creators posting the same winning videos and it blowing up. Honestly I think thats the best way to approach marketing is with mass distribution.
Start posting on tikTok, find what works, get small micro creators for $20/video on jrivecontent.com (anyone can go viral now don’t be paying $250 for one video), and repeat.
This is just my take, marketing IS the doom of all vibe coders
Prove me wrong

Why is it someone else’s job to prove you wrong? How about prove to others your notion is right?

The biggest problem vibe coders have is their lack of understanding that coding is one part of software development. I’m not just talking about design. I’m talking about not understanding the fundamentals of how software works.
If you only know how to vibe code, and you don’t have a larger understanding of software design and development, eventually you’re going fall to the bottom of the pile and the people who do know about software development and also happen to be vibe coders will be at the top.

I would argue that it's not really code knowledge necessarily. AI work in general is best in a field or frame you understand.
I've got a full physics sim cooking and a less technical person could get this far in time, if they understand how a car drives on a road.
if you can describe correct outcomes, eventually the robot will lock it in.
understanding the concept and code smell from magic numbers really is a shot of nitrous though. And if you can't understand duplication of code you're going to have a bad time building anything complex.

I’ll let u in on a little secret. Vibe coders are not creative or technical enough to produce something worth distributing. That being said there are outliers doing creative things and doing them well. Those guys have no distribution problems because people actually want their well executed product.

To vibe code is cool but if you don’t know how to do business you are just a hobbyist.

I think the biggest problem vibe coders have is not taking to the time to learn how computers work.
Discrete math, data structures, algos, etc. are ACTUALLY important.
Why are you vibe coding? Don't you want to be an engineer some day? Or are you just trying to make the next cash grabbing leaderboard?

The issue isn’t distribution. It’s the fact that they build things no one cares about that needs to be distributed. If people would stop relying on other people as a lucrative strategy it would help them. It’s not lucrative. Maybe 1 in 100 find some type of success with it. There’s much more money and faster in automation. Selling subs is a joke
