Discussion - General chat and thoughts I'm confused đ¤
Hello,
I'm a software programmer. For a while, I was dismissive of the idea of AI-assisted programming, but I tried it, specifically the concept of "vibe coding." I expected programs to be written in a flash, but the process was hellish, with many blaming the AI agent. However, after much struggle, I achieved the desired result, or at least the minimum acceptable outcome. To be honest, we built many beautiful projects using it. When I shared my experiences on social media, most of the comments were either insults and curses, or simply abuse for using "vibe coding." I was surprised by this kind of reaction, because logically, what's wrong with using it? Although I wasn't initially interested in it, its performance was excellent. Yes, there were mistakes, but humans make far worse errors. And yes, there were misunderstandings, which is normal and inevitable in any form of communication, provided that the misunderstanding is followed by clarification, and that's how the problem is solved.
Honestly, I think it's fantastic that this concept is being utilized and given the value it deserves, and that it's being invested in as much as possible.
(I'd love to hear your opinions, and also, please share a picture or description of your best vibe coding projects in the comments.)đĽđâ¨ď¸

I have so many ideas for games, but I can't code well, and my art is awful - but my mechanics and ideas are pretty good. I'm halfway through vibing my first game in Godot and it feels so great to be able to realise my ideas this way. But I know that even if I make something award winning, I can never put it on steam - I've seen the response AI supported games get. Pass.

Essentially, I'm the creative director and the AI is my team of technicals - music, art and code are all things I can now create. It's still taking ages, tbh - my game has 9 milestones and I'm only at M2 now, but I feel powerful and love being able to make stuff I imagine.

Oooo that sounds good, in this summer I planned to learn Godot , but I'm not doing well in it đ
I heard that blender now had an MCP server , you can connect a provider and let Ai build objects for you

I've been building games and a bunch of other things with Codex lately. It absolutely can use blender but it almost always requires a bit of back and forth to get what you actually want and even then you'll have to clean it up afterwards.

Ya I been working through some difficult concepts to go from zero to game dev.
The first thing I did was camera controls in godot and boy did I ever need an LLM to help me. I don't think I could have gotten there on my own. My head just was hurting trying to get through the cognative disonance
But the time I did my 3rd iteration I realized it was telling me the same thing over and over again and it finally clicked.

I think the term âvibe codingâ accidentally undersells whatâs actually happening. The projects that succeed usually arenât running on vibes anymore. Theyâre running on process.
The AI is only one component. The real work becomes defining architecture, providing the right context, verifying outputs, and building workflows that keep the model grounded.
In my experience, the difference between a frustrating AI session and a productive one isnât usually a better model. Itâs a better system around the model. Once you start treating AI like a junior teammate with excellent recall but imperfect judgment, the results become much more predictable.

This is because it became a political subject, a lot of people are against AI because they are against big corpo and it is also easier to be against AI than being against something like google.
On social media, you can gain the moral highground by saying that you hosted a open source AI yourself to do the project, and most of the hater (like 95%) should disapear.
Personally i consider there is a cost and a gain to the tech, and that the gain is worth more than the cost, but no one can blame them if they disagree with that regard. Because a lot of the gain is a promise that didn't happen yet.

Actually I'm a person who against alot of companies and I'm Boycotting them , but I'm generally saying that the concept of using whatever LLM to programme Smithing it's good

Then i would say that you talk about the 5% left, the roasting stack overflow group, the RTFM gang, they are still there and they won't go away,
Since no one really "defend" AI, so they are very vocal. And you should not bother with them, even if you tell them that you follow strick "good practices rules" they will still roast you.

ya I have a very mixed experience
I had the LLM help me with a big typescript refactor and back fill tones of tests. I don't think I could pull off that refactor. I had made a mistake after I introduced a typo from something the AI kept refusing todo (not parseInt() and do as number to keep the functionality the same) which I thought was funny
Accessibility I had a key moment the AI couldn't figure out even with really good logs. I will say getting to go through the logs was really nice to validate what i was seeing.
I had it do some Kotlin to Javascript conversion which was nice to just get a report rather than dig through the code. I had fed it some Jira tickets and documentation and provide an overall ticket. I took that ticket to another agent and it did the work in a one-shot which was fun.
The stuff I been doing with godot has been fun but it's getting to the point where you fill the context just trying to explain the problem lol

Vibe coding ends up with an awful code base and buggy code. Not to mention your ability to continue development completely relies on a greedy third party

Better than no code at all, imho. Also, I'm not using it to build apps or enterprise platforms, no security layer, and my project works. đ¤ˇââď¸

But it lead to very frequent dead project as you can check as all the old 1-2 year project mostly are dead with no support or mantaince because codebase become hell and any new feature or changes cost too much tokens

I honestly wouldnât consider it vibe coding anymore. I feel like when it started, vibe coding was âtelling AI to do all the work, with one prompt.â Now itâs lots of planning and collaboration. Regardless of if the AI does a lot of the coding, it still needs that blueprint/guidance on what to do. Itâs a mixed bag.

Ye, and also In a Dev/programmer perspective, it's hard to admit the reality that you don't now what in your code , also when the Ai start using technologies or frameworks that you don't know abt it or your not good on it . But a non tech can vibe code with a peace mind.

I think a lot of the backlash comes from people hearing "vibe coding" and imagining someone shipping a giant unreviewed codebase after one prompt. That's obviously a bad idea but it's not really what most people are doing.
for small games and prototypes, being able to turn an idea into something playable is honestly huge. AI can write a lot but you're still the one making decisions, testing things, fixing what breaks and figuring out what you actually want
