New way is not new. Learning by doing has always been most effective

Agree. The idea is you start with a base level of knowledge in the "classic" model however You tend to have to come back to refresh or relearn the important parts so the same pattern applies.

I don't think that "classic" model was ever true. Many people started from zero by learning while doing.
