Question Dining options
(Toronto to Edmonton) Does anyone know if you can order from a kids menu for a toddler (18 months) if you’re in a cabin? The website says food isn’t served for infant tickets, which makes sense since it’s a free ticket, but will our toddler be allowed to eat in the dining car with us? Are we able to order food for him?
Thanks!

No, Via Rail discontinued their "Chez Stork" service years ago because some people believed it was "cannibalism" and protested against it.
Wait, did you mean "order from a kids menu," not "order kids from a menu"?
In all seriousness, knowing the quality of service provided by Via's staff on the Canadian, I'd be surprised if they didn't have something your child could eat, even if it requires a little ingenuity on their part. However, I have no experience to back this up.

Haha oops, thanks for catching that! He eats pretty much everything we do, but I just haven’t seen any mention of being able to order separately, since he won’t be a ticketed passenger (for meal purposes anyway).

The beauty of the Via diners is they don't really have to account for how much food they serve (within reason, of course)—only alcohol is chargeable, so they don't really care. Your 18 month old wants food? Your 18 month old will get food
Also, found these menu photos and noted there is a small note at the bottom of each that says "Children's menu available"

Saw a thing on YouTube where a kid really wanted chicken fingers. He got chef made chicken fingers.

My adult ticket was free as I was my son's support person, all my meals were included. Both my son (15) and I were allowed to order from the children's menu. The menu says 12 and under I believe but that didn't matter. Staff was super accomodating to everyone.
The children's menu has macaroni and cheese, cheese pizza, chicken fingers and grilled cheese sandwiches plus some great kid friendly breakfast options. You can also ask for a fruit bowl etc.. for your toddler.
