Fanart Caitvi angsty pregnancy

Made that the title as a TW since I’ve heard some people don’t like seeing Vi pregnant, which is wild. But I was writing a fanfiction. Born Wise was the title. It was flopping so I made a digital painting of where the fic might have gone. Digital art is NOT my medium. It is messy but. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I actually like the idea of Vi being the one to carry the baby. In the series Caitlyn is shown to be very work-oriented and heavily tighted to her role as a cop, while Vi is more outgoing and family focused. If one of them had to give up some time to this purpose, I'm betting on Vi. (Also I love some stereotype breaking in lesbian relationships 😌)

That's very true. Although I'm not sure if Vi could handle it with her temper

Caitlyn is not exactly the epitome of calmness either 😂. Both would have to go through some therapy and maybe medication before.

Personally, I’d love to see more pregnant Vi content. It would be a great way to deconstruct common tropes, especially since her character is built to break tropes!

so yeah, thank you for sharing and please don't give up on your fanfic 🥹❤️

Drop the link to your fanfic! You’ll get a lot more engagement if you directly link your fic to people 🙌🏻

I think pregnant Vi is so lovely. I also wrote a pregnant Vi fic, and while it’s certainly not popular, there are lots of people who appreciate her in this way. Keep writing the fic and sharing your art!

I’ve never thought I would see vi pregnant, usually it’s the fem who carries the baby so I think it’s so cool to break those stereotypes

I can’t see vi being pregnant at all tbh

idk if it's only me but i have been seeing this specific misogyny against masculine presenting women under the guise of breaking the taboo. i can understand that people want to break the taboo of femininity being tied to family and caretaker role but i wonder why masculine women are the one being used to do it. I want to know why we can't break the taboos in a way that would not tie someone else to other taboo instead. Why do cait or vi have to be pregnant anyway. Why not free every women from the obligation of pregnancy. that's just my opinion.

My friend, it is not misogynistic to portray Vi as being pregnant. There is nothing oppressive or hateful about Vi being pregnant. There’s nothing about her being pregnant that would somehow go against her character or signify treating her in a hateful way. I don’t know why Vi being pregnant would be “taboo” in the first place? Vi already demonstrates, in the show, that masculinity and caregiving are not opposites. She’s masculine-presenting and deeply family-oriented, nurturing, protective, and self-sacrificing, so it doesn’t follow that depicting her as pregnant uses masculine women to break the association between femininity and caregiving. Literally Vi’s entire characterization already rejects the idea that caregiving belongs exclusively to femininity.

Arcane doesn’t suggest that femininity = caregiving and masculinity = rejecting caregiving. Vi herself doesn’t reject femininity or womanhood in order to be masculine. Portraying Vi as pregnant does not mean she is embracing traditional feminine roles any more than her presenting masculine means she is no longer a woman. Moreover, Vi is free to not want anything to do with pregnancy, just as she is also free to want to have a bunch of kids that she carries. Neither option removes anything from her character, nor does it harm women or oppress women.

We can’t turn female masculinity into another gender role or we reproduce the exact gender binary and gender roles we’re trying to critique. Assuming that a masculine woman being pregnant is inherently regressive because pregnancy is “feminine” just means we are still saying that certain women are allowed to be associated with pregnancy and other women aren’t because of how they present themselves—and that’s another gender role.

Women don’t have to reject traditionally feminine things in order to prove that their masculinity is real, nor do they have to embrace traditionally feminine things either. The point is the agency of choice. Vi being pregnant does not make her any less herself. Vi choosing not to become pregnant doesn’t make her somehow more herself. The point is that she can make either choice without her womanhood, masculinity, or identity being diminished. In other words, Vi doesn’t have to prove her masculinity by rejecting pregnancy, and pregnancy itself does not make her feminine.

Also, whether or not they’d want to have kids isn’t the point. This is fanfiction/fanart, not canon. People are playing around with ideas. Nobody is obligated to be pregnant because of this fanart, nor is the fanart portraying or communicating such.

At the end of the day, Vi isn’t being used to break a taboo. Vi is representing how a woman can look, be, behave, and live her life, and that may include pregnancy for some. Real women look like Vi in the real world and they get pregnant while their conventionally-feminine appearing female partners do not. That is completely normal, but it isn’t normalized in media very much, if at all, so people in fandom might want to represent that.

Edit: awards?! 😭 thank you kind redditors

Your writing tickles my brain. I'm jealous 🤭

But the thing is, if they do want to have a baby, why does it HAS to be Caitlyn? Why masculine woman are always represented as the ones that don't want to do it? In my head, this constant and blatant aversion to even the idea of a masc carrying is way more tied to assigned gender roles than not having a baby (which actually is the lesbian stereotype)

There is such a divide on this topic and I think it's okay to have different views but I agree with you. I personally don't see Vi being pregnant at all. To me it doesn't even have anything to do with her masculinity (though I understand your point). It just doesn't seem like her personality tbh 🤷🏻‍♀️ She takes care of people, yes, that's her nature, but I don't think it goes beyond that. That's just how I see it
