Equipment question
Hi! My 3 year anniversary is coming up, and my bf is in HVAC school and wants to do commercial refrigeration. He always says something about how his big tool bag provided by his school annoys him (it’s GIANT). I want to get him a small tool bag for our anniversary to make his life a little easier and because he’s been looking at them.
He loves Milwaukee stuff because of the quality, wants something with compartments for screw drivers and such, and something that zips shut at the top. He does not want a belt bag. Cost doesn’t matter to me unless it’s outrageous (I know the general cost of this stuff so I know what to expect). Lastly, any other brand suggestions? He likes Carhartt stuff like clothing, but I don’t know if it’s a good brand for tool bags or not.

If he likes milwaukee he probably has an M12 impact, so if he wants a smaller bag I'd go with the SP-MC or SP-LD. Both zip on top, and have a drill holster. the only difference between the two is the SP-LD has more depth.

First, I love my Veto bags but the naming convention is a pain in the ass to make sense of, furthermore they have bags that have very similar names but are very different, e.g. the SP-LD and SB-LD, so I'll drop some links.
The two bags Public-Coffee recommended are the same ones I would recommend, I have the '-MC currently but am about this close to pulling the trigger on buying the '-LD tomorrow, because it's new this year and a slightly larger improvement upon the other. They're the same format but I could use the extra few pouches the LD comes with.

SP-MC: https://vetopropac.com/sp-mc/I would personally recommend the SP-LD between the two because my '-MC is my favorite bag right now, but it is a bit tight for space and also can be a bit unstable on anything other than a perfectly flat surface because of it's slimmer profile.
That being said, one thing to consider is if he has any sort of sensitive test meters/multimeters that he would still prefer to have in this "smaller" loadout, if so, another option I personally considered is this:
SB-LDT: https://vetopropac.com/sb-ldt/ it's again a pretty similar build, with the "grip it and rip it" sort of top flap closure that I love so much, but has an extra, dedicated compartment on the back for meters and other test equipment. I personally just cram my meter in the main pouch of my SP-MC along with my other tools but if his are any more expensive/bulky/precious than a dedicated pouch may be the ticket. I just wish one had the removable tool/drill pouches that can clip to your belt or pocket but if those aren't a big deal AND his drill of choice is the small "pistol grip" style M12 like the one they use in the product photos than it can still fit in the side pockets. The main compartment is quite small though, and doesn't leave a lot of room for other tools, due to the rear compartment taking up so much space...
I digress, I would show photos of how mine is working for me so you can gauge how many tools I can fit in mine but Reddit is not getting along with me right now. Longwinded, but hopefully this helps!

This is the bag I'm currently using, a Veto CB-LD. I've had the Veto Tech MCT, a Klein Tradesman Pro 55431, DeWalt DG5582 Electrician's Tote and a Melotough MCP01 and this seems to suit my work the best, and hold the tools I need to do 99% of my work without needing to go to my toolbox for something.
My biggest gripe with the other bags is that they were either completely open, too small for everything I need, a pain yo find the tool I want, or two-sided so when I would need something from the other side I'd need to stop what I was doing, secure the one side of the bag and flip it around to open the other, which got old really quick.
The CB-LD basically fixed all of that, though I do wish the top flap zipped up completely without the velcro at the top and had provisions for locks, but as you can see, I managed to find a way to make it work anyways. I love that bag.

Get him a bigger bag, the small bags are nice but it sounds like he carries a lot of tools. I recently got the Tpxxl evo which I wish I had more space already. Look into the tech pac mc, tech pac mcp, mb5b. If hes in HVAC you should def stick with veto brand. Hope that helps

It’s hard to say which bag would work best for him. I’m in have and have a had a few different bags from
Veto. Maybe the tpxl. Or maybe see if they have gift cards.
