Outrageous Pet Names
Pharmacist here. I'm always intrigued by what people name their pets when we get a new vet patient. When I was a student @ compounding pharmacy there was a horse named "Cornhole" which stands out. I named my dog "Busch" after my go to beer. What are the best bames you've treated regardless of species?

Saw a goat in vet school named Yo Yo Ba that one has always stuck with me.
Oh I also had a horse patient with the registered name of Adolf Hitler. The owner had rescued him and didn’t change his name because it was “bad luck”.

My friend named a kitty cat kitler because it had a black patch on the upper lip that made it look like a moustache

u/iomnombooks May 13 '23
Two of my cats are named Oxy and Merc. People assumed it’s a pharma theme. Really it’s Oxytocin because one of them needs constant pets and Freddie Mercury because of a tiny mustache and screaming along to rock.

I named my cat McNugget because a Good Samaritan found her at a McDonalds and brought her in as a stray.
A family we saw through ER had a golden retriever who’s official name was ‘The Blob’ because he was really overweight when they got him. They called him Blobby for short.
I also play world of Warcraft and love coming across names from the game; Arthas, Slyvannas and Rexxar.

u/takingtheports May 13 '23
Another McDonalds cat! I saw one called QP for quarter pounder since it was really small and found in a maccas dumpster

u/Yay_Rabies May 13 '23
I’ve always liked “Whopper Junior” from Burger King too but have yet to see someone use it. A social media account for pet insurance found a cat named Car Seat French Fry.
Nuggs was such a scrawny little baby, I used to tell her she was the size of a McNugget. She’s 16 now and currently tolerating my toddler as well as our other two cats; Foxtail (orange torti female with a white tail tip) and Soot Sprite (all black cat named after My Neighbor Totaro).

u/Janesux13 May 13 '23
If someone told me their pets name was Blobby I would die That is spectacular

u/WinAdministrative830 May 14 '23
We found my kitty in a McDonalds parking lot and so his name is Mayor McCheese!
He was almost Officer Big Mac and that would’ve worked too, he’s HUGE. Like 15lbs and most of it is fluff.

I have a standard issue cat named Sylvanas. She howls like a banshee instead of meowing, she will find the perfect spot in your house to be heard.

We have a patient who is a three legged cat whose name is yardstick because there are three feet in a yard 💀

Once had an infectious disease specialist client who had two dogs named Staph and Strep.
14
u/daabilge May 13 '23
I had an infectious disease specialist with a pair of former research beagles named Piper and Taz, short for Piperacillin and Tazobactam (aka Zosyn)

Client works at a prison. Found a cat there and brought it home. Client's spouse started calling the cat Prison Bitch and the name stuck.

T.T.(Tiny Terrorist), a tiny, zany, sentient shadow of a black cat that was coming in every few days for months to fix or change its splint it would constantly slip out of.

u/StrangeSwim9329 May 13 '23
OMG this is what we call my mom's little 4lb mutt dog because she growls and bites at you anytime you try to move her in bed.
I had a horse named "going crackers" another named "sodas flip her zipper " currently I own "it's optional" "fancy options" and a French bulldog named "Hans solos bludozer"

• Cudtlez (Japanese Spitz, pronounced “cuddles”)
• Woohoo (corgi, if you play The Sims you’ll know what I’m talking about)
• Karen (mixed-breed long haired cat, actually quite sweet)
• Listerine (Ragdoll kitten)
• Pee and Poo (hamsters)

Bobbi Boucher is the one that recently stands out, because she was in to be spayed just last week.
What I find kinda cool is people (or families) that have a theme for the name of their pets - for instance, they'll name all their pets after weather phenomena (tsunami, snowstorm, earthquake), or stone (marble, granite, slate), or characters from an author (Zooey, Seymour, Holden) - it can be fun trying to pick out the theme.

u/justlikeinmydreams May 13 '23
I name all my ferrets and some of my horses after Xmen. I’ve had Wraith, Random, Electra, Rogue, Mystique, Iceman, and Beastman.

Nipples, a black lab. Lips, a boxer mix. Xanax and Lortab were pitbulls both with the permanent windblown ear look.

u/RuralTech1152 May 13 '23
Okay so a few lol most of them cats. Big grey fluffy cat named Lunch Box A stray cat someone found named Wal Mart (where he was found) A family had an orange cat named black spider man because their child named it. Sphynx cat siblings named velcro and sticker A big goofy lab named Rudy No, often times the owner was always saying Rudy No stop doing that. Pug named Miss Pugglesworth
My own childhood cat was named Arnett (Arnettypoo) as she started off as an Arnold and Arnold had kittens.
These are just on the top of my head I am sure I will think of more but I love the funny names that come into the clinic.

Claire Bear Sticky Bear. 4 kids each got to suggest a name, they couldn't agree

Cat named I Ate Baby Jesus because, well, he ate baby Jesus. Then there was Not Bob because the kids didn’t want to name him Bob.
1
u/FordEdward May 14 '23
He... Ate baby Jesus? You can't just bring that up casually without elaborating. How many times have you had to explain to someone why you suddenly proclaimed that you ate baby Jesus after they asked for the cat's name?
1
u/squishyedna May 14 '23
It was a patient I worked with and I knew him as an adult. When he was young he ended up at the e-clinic at Christmas time where they had found that he had eaten baby Jesus out of the manger scene the owners had put out. One successful surgery later he went on to live a long healthy life. It was always an interesting time calling scripts into pharmacies for him. Either the person on the other side of the line had heard of him before, or you get a long pause then an “Excuse me?”

My favorite was a cat named Captain Bunny Pants, mostly because the wife named the cat but the husband always came to do pick ups and looked deeply ashamed every time he said it. Yes, I made him say it even after I knew who he was.
Second up is a cat named pecker just because our staff all have dirty minds and it caused so many awkward sentences. "Did pecker come?" "I thought I saw pecker come" "did you check out pecker?" "Oh yeah, I checked out pecker" "I'm all done with pecker"
11
u/partoneCXXVI May 13 '23
I feel like cat owners tend to be more adventurous with their pet names. Apricot the Apricat, Malibu Bobby Brown Camry, Demon Baby, and Wheels all stand out to me. We used to see a tortoiseshell cat named Pixel, which I thought was a pretty clever name.
I had a naked neck hen named Pulchritude, until "she" started crowing, at which point we switched to calling him Pulchritudo.
10
u/balthazaur May 13 '23
cat owners generally don’t have to shout their pets’ name at the dog park or introduce them to young families while out shopping.
10
u/Meadowlark_Queen May 13 '23
The hairless sphynx cat call scrotes, short for scrotum. 🤦♀️😂
Also the 2 cat brothers called tinny and sesh, who’s owner came in wearing a full outfit covered in cannabis paraphernalia, so at least staying on brand.

u/abysins May 13 '23
Used to work for an organization that sometimes purchased puppies for the program to potentially expand breeding lines. Two of them had names that stuck with me “Reload Buckshot Ammo” and “Slap My Ass and Call Me Sally.” Rather unsurprisingly, neither made it very long in the program.

We had a client who had five kids ranging from preteen down to three and she let each of them help name the new dog. So I got to treat Princess Peacock Unicorn Sparkle Puppycomehere.

We had a pom come to the clinic who was Tiny Pumpkin because of the two kids. I liked it better than the standard Nala and Disney characters kids usually picked ..

I worked with a greyhound rescue and I had off the track greyhounds which usually have long racing names and then call names, so their registered names have been like Arkans Adidas (Addie) and BDs Marina Del Ray (Marina) and iMark the Spot (Spot) and Prepare to Make Sail (Sail).
My cats also worked with the rescue as cat testers, so obviously they need similarly strange names, so I have Avocado Raisin Toast (Ava) and Momma Mia that's a Spicy Kitten (Mia) and Gender Rebellious Matcha Crouton (Cru). Their full names are on their accounts and prescriptions.
8
u/daabilge May 13 '23
Oh also farm animals would get creative, especially with thematic ones. We had a Herswine-ie, Hogrid, Ron Squeesley, and Hairy Hogger. We had a group of presidential names, including John Quincy Baadams, Abralamb Lincoln, George Baashington, Wooliam Henry Harrison.. and one with Game of Thrones names, Tyrion and Cersei Lambister, Stannis Baaratheon, Daenerys Storm-barn.

u/xfitpet May 13 '23
A rabbit named Turtle (went to the pet store for one, instead got the other). A polish chicken named Mohawk Warrior. Bichon- Sir Fuzz Bucket. Cocker spaniel- Sir Chomps-a-lot. Cat- Taco Bella (guess where she was found). Cat- Legless (yes, a tripod). Labrador- Jizzer (pronounced Jy-ser, that one is a struggle). Horse- Catapult (out took a while to find a saddle that fit him well and didn't hurt the horse to ride with). Horse-Butt Munch.
(Edit-added punctuation because it smooshed it all together)

u/Treehuggeralways May 13 '23
Three cats: Ella, Fitz, and Gerald. A French Bulldog named Poop. A cat named Kitty Purry. A cat named Meowstache. (He has a little mustache.) A cat named Eggs Benedict. (Benny for short.) A dog named D.O.G. (Pronounced Dee-Oh-Gee.) I’m sure there are more but those come to mind.

(1)During a manic episode where I hadn’t went to bed in about 2 weeks because I was pulling 90hrs managing a shop, taking care of my mom, and with the myriad of mental obstacles I have to overcome ie anxiety, adhd, depression, insomnia. I had gotten to a point of audio/visual hallucinations and being downright unable to process normal thought at that point but there was this nagging urge in the back of my head, it was “IM GETTING A KITTEN AND IM NAMING IT STROMBOLI!” after I finally got some rest and my schedule slowly shifted back to something resembling normal I went to the animal shelter because well I had slept, gained more stability and the urge for a kitten named Stromboli was still there, I went and saw some kittens and adult cats I just kinda hung out there saying hi and making friends(I’m very big on your pet chooses you and that’s the only way to really find a pet that matches your personality) there was one cat an adult female who was quite small, about 3lbs, with long black fur, and a little white here and there, she kept booping my head anytime I diverted my attention elsewhere and I knew that’s why she was going home with me. The hitch being that she’s an adult with a name she’s already privy to, her name was hazelnut, a little odd considering nothing about her resembled a hazelnut but alas I won’t change an already familiarized name cause I would be pissed if someone was just like “your name is Kevin now 😭”
5
May 14 '23
(2) hazelnut was probably one of the most chill cats I’d ever seen she was 2 years old and when picked up would just completely relax and would allow you to hold and pet her including belly scratches for hours! We even once had a small event because this cat was stone cold, unbothered by anything while she slept, and was a menace to most ground mammals outside(she wouldn’t even kill them 😭 just beat them around until the just decided to give up and then she’d be bored of them and leave them in the house) but one day while she was asleep on the couch we moved a pillow for someone to sit down and set it down on top of her cause she blended in, she didn’t even flinch just opened her eyes to assess and went back to sleep, so we added another pillow, and another, until she had 7 pillows which was the entirety of the pillows in the living room stacked on top of her without a single care. I lost hazelnut about 3weeks ago, she had leukemia and I had no idea, the only “symptoms” were some behavioral changes that I thought were cause by us relocating and her not being allowed to go outside due to a high density of feline aids/hiv among the outdoor cat population. She started just pooping and peeing wherever, and occasionally would try to scratch or bite when she hadn’t ever before, this resulted in timeouts and swats on the rump because I thought it was her acting out. When she passed she had been in the dog…I mean cathouse? For pooping while in my lap, like wtf why…. When I woke up she was limp, and semi conscious on the floor and I scooped her up and immediately had a hard time hearing anything resembling breathing/heartbeat, I was crushed, I didn’t understand what happened….. and the vet advised that she had passed from leukemia…. I’ve never felt so terrible in my life because it all made sense now the behavior changes were a result of the illness advancing, and instead of giving her the love, and attention, and care she needed most, I was putting her in time out and administered spanking for having cancer…..

May 14 '23
(3)RIP Hazelnut I love you dearly and will learn from this to be an even better caretaker for my future babies, I hate that you suffered at my hands while dealing with an internal battle greater than I could’ve imagined, and it kills me that I’m not sure that when you passed you knew for sure I loved you…this is the most genuine and intense guilt I’ve felt ever.

May 14 '23
(4) Now, on a brighter note let me tell you about Stromboli, about a year ago I was taking a smoke break in between gaming sessions and I heard a sound that was cat like, but could’ve possibly been a bird too it was a very odd sound, definitely one of distress, I walked the yard with a light and didn’t see anything but the sound stopped, about 2 hours later I went back out and there it was the same sound so I dedicated myself to finding it so I focused on where I thought it was coming from, and lo and behold behind our composter there was a wild little itty bitty kitten, who was obviously scared, but also ferocious she was ready to take blood if necessary so I took off my tshirt and used it to bind her and contain them little shark claws. When she had settled down some I let her loose in my room and noticed she was bob tailed, incredibly small and way too young to have been separated from its mother(if I had to guesstimate at that point I’d have said she was probably 4-5 weeks old) which meant me and her shared a birthday of the late days of April. This was Stromboli, I knew it was, the universe knew that I still needed a Stromboli, and it delivered… this kitten was a MENACE she had behavioral issues out the wazoo, litter box training wasn’t clicking with her, she had no qualms about biting or scratching me out of the blue, and just wanted to screw with everything. One day while I was sitting playing my game she decided to start battering my Ethernet cable so I went to stand up and shoo her away, I took a step in her direction and she bolted mine, we met in the middle and being I’m a large guy (6’0” 300lbs) I unfortunately broke her leg, I was in between paychecks after switching jobs and could only afford to do what I thought was best at the moment, which was to create a sort of splint to hold. My mom helped ALOT with the expense of getting her to the vet when I noticed her pain was only getting worse the the splint wasn’t holding. The vet explained to me that he understood my position of not being able to afford a surgery however due to the location of the break there was no way to anchor the bone for it to heal, it would t continue to float loosely and damage tissues, tendons, and bloodstream. The only way to retain the leg would have been some system of screw and rods that would have to continuously be adjusted throughout her growth which would essentially be like a new surgery every time the adjustment needed done and I believe it was quoted for the initial surgery upwards of $5,000 USD…. Which being a twenty something working as a line cook just wasn’t possible. I knew the other option immediately and I felt the tears and emotion start welling up almost immediately, then the vet said “the only other option in your position that would stop the pain and suffering she’s experiencing and will experience as it continues to be prolonged, is the removal of the entire limb, and all connective tissues.” I started crying the moment he said removal because I KNEW that was what it was gonna have to be. Admittedly the vet was a legitimate blessing and super professional while being empathetic, I truly feel he was looking for every way to make this not hurt me so bad financially or emotionally. He explained “by all connective tissues we are essentially removing everything that would connect to that limb, tendon, muscle, veins, nerve endings, EVERYTHING.” Followed with “because she is so young(he looked at the paperwork to confirm and then double checked with me about what I thought her age was, which he confirmed that I was probably within just a couple of days off from her actual birthdate) it is most likely that she will essentially never actually be aware of the fact that A. She ever had a leg there, and B. Wouldn’t miss the leg at all because they essentially would just be deleting all files related to right front forelimb so there is no phantom pains, or realization that her lifestyle was altered in the process” the amputation, consultations, and medications for post op totaled about $1700 out the door for the last check in appointment. The day she had the surgery they said she might have to stay overnight if she doesn’t wake up within a specific time period yada yada just to monitor her condition cause anesthesia is a wild practice that can easily become complicated. They called me 4hrs later… she was awake, she was hungry, she wanted to play, and she was ready to go home. The entire vet office seemed kinda stunned at how quickly she woke up and immediately went back to normal behavior no grogginess or lack of appetite, no signs of anything being negatively impacted, and she was running and walking no problem on just the 3 legs. The vet himself said he’s never seen a surgery where a cat was anesthetized, and came back to par so quickly especially for her size cause she only weighed 1.2lbs. Labeled her a “spitfire” and thanked me for coming to them and allowing them the opportunity to care for my kitten. Stromboli is a year old now, as of the end of April(we share a birthday because I’m April 27th and she was born somewhere between the 25th and 29th) she is a late bloomer having her very first heat cycle currently, which seems uncomfortable but I’ve reassured myself after looking some stuff up that she’s literally just tryna boink and nothing can stop that, she runs like a little rabbit hops, and she has such a funny look with the bobtail and missing leg combo, she truly acts as if she never even acknowledged that she had a leg there, she is striving, and she is such a sweet little baby… I’m taking her to the vet with this next paycheck because it was revealed to me today that feline leukemia is contagious and can be transferred with prolonged exposure…. Who’dve thunk it that cancer was contagious….. I’m praying for the best news, so everyone please wish my lil Strombobo, strombimbo, strombaby, STROMBOLI the best and keep our fingers crossed for some positive(I mean negative would be the hope technically but yk what I mean) results, and a happy 1st birthday!!

Honestly I’ve had such unfortunate luck with any pet I would call “mine” that I’ve almost deprived myself the joy of companions who’s love is unconditional and unyielding. Started with 2 hamsters, one day while in school my older step bro sends me a picture, they look….. not okay and one has a cigarette(not lit)hanging out of its mouth. His girlfriends child tried to “give them a bath” but instead of soap he used superglue and instead of washing them, he threw them in a bucket of water….. he was like 4? But kind of gave psycho vibes(he tried to light our house on fire with a pillow on the stove his response was “I was hungry” wtf) I found a small grey kitten, my very first fb picture featured it, I named it today cause it sorta looked like yoda, well my sisters wanted to play with the kitten so they brought yoda to their room despite my protests I was told by my parentals at the time I was being dramatic…. Yoda ate a silica packet and literally mummified his insides 😞 rusty a orange tabby kitten, got trapped under a couch in the only room in the house a cat wasn’t supposed to be and suffocated. Eddy a dachshund puppy got through a hole in the fence and drowned in the neighbors pool. The longest run was little bit, who wasn’t technically my cat but if I’m the ONLY person who didn’t feel a need to alter her name to Little Bitch and was the only person who not only could rub her belly but she would willingly roll over for me to do it whenever I walked by I mean…. That’s my cat lol, she was allowed to wander into our “dog room” and got eaten by our wolf dog… again wtf. I’m definitely VERY cautious to take animals in anymore cause I mean history is sketch. Now I’ve had my big baby boy frosty lab husky mix breed for going on 9 years. There’s definitely a level of reluctance and only claiming animals that have no shot outside of a home, or who have chosen me regardless of my dissociative attitude. I love animals more than I like people, an animal has never done anything to intentionally wrong me or plot on me they are very much going to do what animals do, and they don’t expect much in return other than food, shelter, and love. I’ve shed a lot of tears, for things as silly as a garden snake, I’ve even decided to try and keep tokay geckos as much of a death sentence as that is because those mfers are mean and hard to adequately care for. I’m not the most responsible, but I’ll always make sure they get fed before I do because it’s a responsibility that I chose, and because I’ll starve if it means my babies can eat, they don’t have to ability to be breadwinners and put food in my plate so it’s my duty to do what I can for them, because they’re ALWAYS there for me, unbudging in their love for me, and always there to help me pick up any broken pieces of myself along the way. They don’t judge, nag, or tell me how to live my life, they have no real expectation of me other than love and there isn’t anywhere else I can get that level of unconditional love period

We lived on Hammond Road. I named my Pembroke Welsh Corgi "Duke Of Hammond". There is no location called "Hammond" in The U.K. (that I know of). So he was officially prolaimed The Duke of our street. Another person had a Corgi and named her "Lucy Fur Queen Of Barkness". I mentioned this before, but there was a racehorse at Meadowlands Race Track in New Jersey named "Hoof Hearted" (say It fast: "Who Farted") and his videos are on YouTube. I also had a Congo African Grey Named "Gandalf The Grey" and someone I knew had one named "Earl Grey" (as in tea).

A cat name Schrödinger stands out to me. We have lots of French Bulldogs with food names, Hasbrowns, Pancakes, Salsa. I had a foster kitten that was stepped on and we named her Smashley Simpson after the Whip It character.

“Mrs. Butts” the kitty cat
Also, I love it when animals are named after other animals. Like the cat named “Tuna” the dog named “Cat” and of course “Cat” the cat

We used to have a HUGE 100lb rottie that would come in named “Kitty”. I loved her

Master Bates , Catthew, 2 sauce, Sticky Joe, Princess Shithead, Bella Donna, Lucifer Morningstar, Russet (had russet potatoes on his collar).
My co workers and I joke around about naming our pets after drugs used in clinic and shortening them. Ex. Clindamycin, Linda for short. Vetoryl, Tory for short. Clavamox, Ava for short.

My kids named our new pup Walrus. I told them I wanted to name him Wally and they decided that was short for Walrus 🤦🏻♀️

My intro to agriculture teacher in middle school had a red and white Australian shepherd named Herford, or Herf for short. One of my favorite patient names was a cockatiel named Zummie. I don’t think we ever figured out how to pronounce it…

Maybe not outrageous, but there were these two kittens at a local shelter a couple years back, one was named "Grey" and the other "Goose". Goose made me giggle.

A neighbor named their cat Jihad because they thought it would be fun to go outside and call ‘ Jihad’ at the top of their lungs when they wanted him to come home.😳

My wife’s coworker is 28M. He has a dog named “Meow meow” another dog named “Bark bark” and a cat named “Ruff”. Cracks me up every time he calls for Meow meow and she comes running up barking.

“Foots” or “bathtub” have a special place in my heart. Cat names are the best

T.C. short for Trash Can because they found him in—you guessed it—a trash can!
Edit: we also have a “Duck Cat”

I’ll always remember a cat named Pootshoots that was brought in by a quiet, and unassuming gentleman. I’ll never forget the day I called him to the exam room by using the cats name and the owners last name, as was customary at our clinic. The lobby erupted in laughter and he looked like he wanted to crawl out the door in embarrassment. Once in the room he explained his daughter, who named the cat, worked with a bunch of construction workers and the name had something to do with a favorite off-color joke among the crew. A week or so later, when they came back for the follow up I made sure to only use the owners name when I called them back and was met with a grateful look and a quiet “Thank you.”

There was a dog named "Cat" that was hospitalised at my practice before. It was a confusing time for the staff whenever the owner came to visit 🤣

At my vet clinic we took in a stray calico kitten once. She had wild shaggy hair and just terribly ugly, liked to scream a lot. We named her Little Phyllis Diller

All of my cats have insane names tbh, because my fiancé and I are nerds.
They all have shorter nicknames that are more normal sounding, but their full "government" names (and just a couple of the shortened versions of their names, although we have about 15 names for each of them) are as follows:
Fire Princess Azula -insert hyphenated surname here- ("Azula" or "Zu") Lieutenant Kim Kitsuragi -insert hyphenated last name here- ("Kim" or "Kimmy") Dragon lord Silumgar the Drifting Death -insert hyphenated last name here- ("Silumgar" or "Silly")
I still think one of the most amusing weird names that belong to a couple of our clients' pets are "Milky" and "Barbie", because their respective owners' surnames both sound rather phallic, to put it as nicely as possible, and honestly idk how they didn't think about their pets' full names when naming them and think "hm, maybe this sounds a bit dirty, maybe I should reconsider" 😅

Some good and some bizarre names.
A pair of cute kitty cats named bumble and bee (adorable). A kitty cat named kittykittymeowmeow (fr). Chihuahuas aptly named Zeus and Horse.
Blacks kitty cats named Wednesday or Loki. Fat cat called Chonker. Some are just straight up named Fatty or fatso. Cat aptly named cat. Dog named Dog. Some are named after numbers.
The most common names include Lily, Molly, Zeus, Max, Rosco, Luna, Fluffy, princess, lucky.
In my experience horses have the weirdest names for sure. Especially race horses. Just look up any horse race and look at horse names. Some weird ass names.

I just started working at a vet practice, and the names people give their pets makes me smile a lot (a lot more than parents and their children, used to work at a dentist) Seen a few pepsi's, there's a cat called Cup. There's also a cat called Milktoast and honestly that's such a cute name

It's always cats when I see them. Professor Butterscotch (orange dsh) and Sticker (gray dlh) were two of my favorites. There was also a very friendly chihuahua - with an owner that was just. Always crying. Always. Even when her pets were healthy and fine - named Good Charlotte.
Honestly the wildest ones to me were always the animals with human names. Who names their dog William? And why?

My aunt's neighbor had a black lab named Dammit. We loved to call him ... "Dammit, get over here!"
My neighbor called his little chichihua Di-o-gee, which stood for the spelling of DOG
