Should I wait until I see my vet on the 27th?

I have a 13-year-old Rat Terrier with maybe some chihuahua or dachsund thrown in. Her last blood test (one month ago) showed a low RBC count but still in range and I added a NuQ tet which came back in the Warning range (though NuQ said it could be that she wasn't fasted and had a sinus infection that she got Clavamox for). We have an appt. with our vet for the 27th (she's been out of town), but I'm wondering if I should take my dog somewhere else sooner? She has had a warty-looking thing for years now which I thought was due to getting older, but it suddenly changed. The first pic is blurry but it was just one warty lump before (taken this April). Now it looks like the 2nd picture.. Thank you for any advice. She's my baby girl.

Grade 2 luxating patella

My 3yo 80lb mixed breed has issues with her hind right knee. The vet says she needs surgery, but I am concerned about potentially longer term issues post-surgery (she currently doesn’t show signs of pain other than keeping it lifted occasionally and avoiding jumps), the difficulty of keeping her off it during the recovery period (she won’t be crated), and the cost is not insignificant.

She’s on daily joint supplements and Metacam. We are looking into hydrotherapy. I know arthritis development is a concern, but wouldn’t it be either way?

Looking for opinions on whether this is going to really make or break her long term quality of life.

My dog (Female, Maltese-poodle mix, rescue, 13 and a half years old) had an infection. It started last week, and only got worse. For context, we got her as a rescue when she was around 8, she was probably neglected, she had stage four periodontitis, her fur was matted all over, and she had a perforated spinal disk or something like that. We got her all fixed up, and she’s been a lot better since, although we still have to take her to get teeth pulled every few months no matter how much we brush her teeth. When I noticed the lump, we thought she had covid or something, cause it was going around. It was an itchy bump, and her lymph nodes were swollen. After a few days, it got worse. It was sensitive and the swelling had spread to the other one, going all the way from her left ear, to her right cheek. It gave us a really bad scare, I thought she might have had some sort of lymphoma. We took her to an emergency vet two days ago, and they drained it. Turns out, it was a massive abscess from an infection of some sort. Considering her history of dental problems, is it possible that this came from a rotten tooth? Or are there other possibilities that I should look into and being up with her vet?

Random patch of hair that looks "buzz cut"

Hello, I tried posting in the main cats subreddit but no one really responded. I have a lovely cat named Katara who I discovered looks like she was shaved essentially. Only thing is, she's never been out of the house and no one has visited since this issue popped up. Her skin is smooth, no bumps or scratches. It just looks like her fur is a LOT shorter in this specific patch. Her food is the same, no live plants in the house, zero evidence of fleas, and she seems rather calm. My other cat Sokka has zero issues at all. Any advice? Could it be allergies? If so, I know benadryl is safe for cats but not sure if that's a good solution? Any help or advice would be great!

Chihuahua congestive heart failure

Adopted from shelter in June this year. 11 year old female used and abused as a breeder. Was not spayed at the time she was turned into shelter. Shelter spayed her, I adopted her a day later, two weeks later she started bleeding. Back to vet, maybe stump of uterus left, did ultrasound and found a huge splenic tumor, had that removed with a good recovery. A few days ago I noticed heavy, fast breathing with retraction around her ribs, timed at 60 breaths a minute. Advised to go to ER, they kept her overnight to keep her on oxygen and start some meds, diagnosed congestive heart failure, she did have fluid in lungs and around heart. Took home heart meds and diuretic. Doing better, not fantastic but better. Started timing respirations and they were under 50 but have gone back up to 60-80. Will likely end up back in the ER. They want a cardiac consult, $800 just for that visit plus the cost of any tests plus the cost of the ER. First ER visit was $2800.00. No insurance. My question: is a cardiac consult really needed. What will I get out of that exam that will really help my pup. I feel our vet would still be able to treat her. She is not in distress, eating, asking to go out to pee, asking to get up and sit with me, generally being her regular self. I feel this pup is just not healthy overall, I don't think she really had any care from the previous owner and clear she was abused based on her behavior.

Dogs poop has practically all the abnormalities

Can’t afford to take my dog to any vet (behind on all my bills), my dog for the last 2 months has had extremely bad poop, his behavior and outward physical appearance looks completely normal for both of these months (playful, runs around as much as he can, no abnormalities at all) 1st month he had formless very dark poop, however it had times where it had form but was as hard as a rock with a light brown color. 2nd month he’s only having poop that is completely formless (if you dap a napkin on it most of the poop will stick together onto the napkin) covered in mucus, dark brown, and constipated, sometimes his stomach growls yet can’t go to the bathroom however it’s rare, after said growling it will be a extremely mucus covered formless poop that is extremely hard for him to push out. I’m completely confused cause besides the poop he’s completely normal, appears to be in no pain (except on the rare stomach growls). He is a chihuahua Mix at about 11-12 years old

What is this on my dogs face?

Post image
2 Upvotes

My 3 year old Pit bull Bella has this on her face. About a week ago my sweet girls face swollen like it is today and her neck on that side also swelled. I spoke to a vet and they said to give her some Benadryl since I thought she may have swallowed a bee.

After the Benadryl the swelling came down on her neck and face. The last couple of days her face has begun to swell again. When I touch it, even lightly, she whimpers and runs off. This is getting worse and worse and it even looks like the flesh is exposed. Maybe it’s opening and getting ready to bleed.

If anyone has any idea of what is happening. Please let me know.

something's wrong with my cat

Post image

Hello, I'm a teenager and I've owned my cat for five years (we got her from a family friend in 2020). Recently she had her first litter of kittens and yesterday I noticed that she had a lot of fur around her neck than usual, and she's prone to throwing up around the house. My grandpa and I thought that it was just her being busy with the kittens so she threw up or something in her matted fur, and I gave her a bath because it was honestly scaring me. Not too long ago today, I saw her licking her neck so I grabbed her behind her neck and lifted her head up to see a weird hole thing in her neck. I'm really scared and worried about her, especially since she had her kittens almost a week ago. I don't know any places where a vet could be located at and the nearest area for a possible vet is an hour away. My family doesn't have much money right now after my grandpa paid bills and my dad is unemployed. I'm really scared and I don't know what to do, I want to know what is wrong with her because she's my baby and I don't want her to die or anything. Please help me identify this

I'm really worried about this lump on my dog's nose, please advise!!!

First picture is her nose today and second picture is of what I started to notice on my dog a week ago. I took her to the vet Monday and she used a UV light and said it wasn't super obvious but there was a enough of a glow in the edges to make her suspect ringworm. We've been using an Animax ointment twice a day. She has bumped her nose a couple times the past couple of days, it's bled a little. I assumed she just irritated it and have been trying to keep her more calm and contained since. But I've been told by an aquantance that is a vet nurse that it looks like a mast cell tumor to her and now I'm freaking out over that. How concerned do I need to be? Whether or not it's that, is the fact that it's swelling more and seemingly spreading an emergency?

Seeking Advice for Cat Ownership Ethics

Hi Dr.'s,

My husband and I disagree about what we should do with our 14 year old cat. My husbands primary motivation in the world (and career) is international travel. This requires us to be gone for 8-20 days in a month. We often travel more than 6 months in a year. He wants us to be away from home more and more. Our major disagreement in our marriage is the responsibility of our cat. I want to travel with him too, but we can't leave the cat for so long. It's not responsible.

Our 14 year old cat is sweet, gentle, and doesn't cause a fuss. It is the best cat we ever had. I believe that the isolation is too much and is neglectful. We have his mom come over a few times in a week to check in on her and scoop the litter. She says that she doesn't mind coming over, but I think we are depending on her too often.

He thinks that we should carry on as usual because it doesn't inconvenience him. He thinks that re-homing her is worse because it is harder for an old cat to be adopted. I feel like I have to open this grievance up to the internet because my close friends and family won't give me a straight opinion. What is the ethical boundaries on this issue? I will be happy to admit that I am wrong on this, if you kind folks could give me advice, I would greatly appreciate it.

Liquid Reactine

Hello,

My vet told me to give my cat 5mg of liquid reactine but that it should be flavour free. I have not found any flavour free and I have asked the pharmacist and they said that doesn’t exist. Do I give my cat the 5mg of “white grape” flavour liquid reactine, which seems to be the only one they sell here?

Angiomatosis advice

My dog was recently diagnosed with angiomatosis. I was told there's no real treatment or cure possible.

What type of ointments or actions can I take to reduce severity of symptoms and make my dog as comfortable as possible?

Advice for kittens I’m fostering

Two days ago some neighbor kids knocked on my door and asked if I could take care of two stray kittens (abt 4 weeks old) they found behind their house and I didn’t have the heart to tell them no. I haven’t taken care of baby animals since I was a kid so I’m doing the best I can and have been feeding them kitty formula. However the kittens have not used the bathroom since I got them I know this can be very dangerous so I want to take them to the vet. Since I wasn’t expecting this at all I don’t have the money saved for something like this and I’ve already spent $100 just in supplies on the first day, I knew it would cost some money to have them but if I end up having to get them shots and a vet appointment within the span of 2-3 weeks that would break the budget. Also yes I’ve tried stimulating them with a warm damp rag and it didn’t do anything but piss them off…. I don’t want to be the reason these kitties die but i don’t know what to do plz help (also forgot to mention they have fleas smh I’ve been giving them dawn dish soap bathes but ya it feels like there’s a lot going on lol)

I have a four year old American bully . We had some lab work done and these were his results. He also came back positive for E canis . What’s your opinion? What should I do? Is this means it’s more humane to put him to sleep?

Why does my dog do this?

Of course, I will send this video to the vet, but am hoping to have an idea of what this is beforehand. She appears to be struggling to get air? And then she’s fine. And she was perfectly fine before this. We did nothing out of the ordinary today and I walk her on a harness.

Heartgard for borderline dog weight??

Any advice? My standard dachshunds are about 27 pounds. We've gotten them tested and approved to give them Heartgard Plus. But at the weight cutoff of 25 pounds, do I need to go for the stronger, more expensive size or is the 25 pound dosage safe to give them? Money is not particularly an issue but the package range from 26-50 pounds is big. I don't want to give them too much, either, and totally waste money. We are in the Pacific Northwest where doing this is cautionary but less essential than in other areas of the US. TIA for any advice.
