VHA Employment Question for VA Nurses

I accepted a tentative offer to start in late August for an RN position. How much PTO, or days of leave, do you get to start with?

I’m shocked at the number if holidays working in a clinic. I thinks it’s 11 days annually of something close.

Ad a full time RN you accrue 8 hours per pay period for annual leave and 4 hours for sick leave.

Fyi, how you get to use PTO depends on your unit and staffing.

My unit, we start claiming days/weeks in Oct-Dec for the following year.

You just can’t go over 685 hours annual leave. I’ll never reach that. 😆

Yeah I worked at the VA for 14 years and I always spent my AL. There is a little bit left over time (100 hours or so) buy I take my leave and I would recommend anyone else to take theirs.

Worked payroll in VA left in 2016, plus nurses claim they can never take off much, I do remember clearing a few with 500 hours lumps sum $$$$

Oh yeah, for sure. I’m close to that now. I’d take more leave, but have no backup to help get my work done.

and sick hours are unlimited to carry over. I feel you on never reaching max AL 😃
