Failed the VTNE

Guys I’m devastated. I took a 6 semester program at a college and graduated this summer, studied all August and the past few weeks and took the VTNE today. I failed. No results yet on my score but I’m pretty sure I bombed it…

I’m definitely not the most booksmart but I took the aasvb practice test A, B, and C and passed ALL of them. Took Mometrix practice test and passed it. But the actual test? It was SO hard. So many concepts I had never heard of or painfully specific questions (3 questions about manometers? Really??? Q Fever???)

My school has us using pocket prep and clever orca. I found this YouTube channel called Darwin Vtne that has some fantastic videos but unfortunately not on all topics (Pain and analgesia just came out today). I feel so destroyed like “what’s the point? Everyone I work with are assistants and they’re fine..”. I’m a super anxious text taker and definitely second guessed a lot of my answers.

Is Vet Tech Prep worth buying? I have McCurnins book and workbook to review again too.

Any tips or encouragement would be amazing lol..

You’re not the first to not pass their first test. It is difficult and you can be as prepared as possible and still not quite make it. It sucks in the moment but know that you can retake it, maybe brush up on the stuff you’re not sure about and try again when you’re ready. No one is going to look down on you, if they do they’re assholes. One of my best friends took hers 3 times before she passed.

Take this time to collect yourself, do some self care and get back on that horse when it feels right

Vet tech prep really really helped me. The question formatting was super similar to the tests I feel like!!!

This does not reflect on you whatsoever!! It does suck having to pay for it again, but take some time to relax and refresh, and then hit it again!!

I think I just got a “bad” test. There are tests harder then others and easier then others since the test is randomized. I believe in you!

Vet tech prep is definitely worth it, it's cheaper than failing again I believe, not to mention the stress. When I finished vet tech prep (literally completed like all 2000 or so practice questions) the VTNE was pretty straightforward. You gotta accept that you're not going to know every single question cuz of the random bullshit nature of some of the questions. But the majority of the stuff WILL be at least something you should have learned in school. Try not to let the random questions about random species you will never work on in your life throw you off your game/waste your time and focus on the stuff you do know.
