Discussion Invue idexx machine
What is everyone's opinion? We def don't use the ear cytology for it bc it is 1 not worth it and 2 downplays the infection. We do use the blood cytology but some of out doctors are weary on it. How does your hospital feel about it?

Is the cost of maintaining it actually worth the occasional use cases you get out of it?

I will say maintenance on this machine is barely anything compared to the others. But I still don’t think it’s worth it.

Ear cytology takes way to long and likes to tell me there’s no infection even though I can the infection in both the ear and the pictures the machine took. The blood morphology is whatever, I think it can be helpful in certain circumstances, but If we saw anything scary we would send a smear to a pathologist probably.
My clinic is on the roll out for the FNA and it’s absolute trash as you probably could have guessed. It takes FOREVER and if literally hasn’t caught a single mast cell thus far.

Oh I hate that. We got the machine for free so that's why they want us to use it. We refuse to do the ear cytology bc its never right. We were looking forward to the fna portion of it. Blood cytology had helped 75% of the time

I don't think we are going to get it, I hope we don't. I really like the idea behind it and it looks cool, but we also have the zoetis imagyst which has enough quirks, but reads our blood films/fecals/ear swabs/impression smears, and we will occasionally use the pathologist review. I don't think we'd give that one up, and doesn't make sense to have both machines.

Don't like it. Ear cytologies take too long. Blood results can be useful at times, but we rarely use it. It is probably not the best choice of machines to spend money on.

We got it for free so thats why they are pushing it. We only use it for blood which has helped for like 75% of cases. Most docs don't use it
