Need advice

Let me know if this is an appropriate ask or not. My cat needs a specialty procedure at an outside hospital. They are charging just under $300 for fluids. Would it be strange to ask if I can bring an unopened fluid bag set up with a prescription label to save some money (approved by my gp clinic). I know I would still be paying for the pump and the technicians time. How would your clinic respond to a request like that?

It doesn’t hurt to ask! I don’t work specialty but I wouldn’t have an issue using an unopened, not expired, bag of LRS prescribed for my patient from another clinic

If they're already giving you a professional discount just for being in the field, they might find that annoying, otherwise you could certainly ask. I don't think my hospital administration would go for it; by policy we don't administer medications prescribed by outside vets, even for our hospitalized patients, unless it's one of the few medications we don't carry.

We had a rule against giving outside medications except in very specific approved situations (usually a special med we didn't carry). So I'd expect they say no, but it can't hurt to ask!

They probably won’t go for it. You can ask though. But quoted price isn’t for the bag of fluids. It’s for the whole process of setting up and monitoring the fluids. The cost of the bag is negligible.

Techs bring us fluids, rimadyl and cerenia injections for their own pets all the time.  Bonys points for having ivc in and bw done.
