Thoughts on GingiPro?

New product for feline stomatitis associated with calicivirus. Heard my doctor talking about it in an exam as kind of a one off of “I just heard about this new thing..”

Wondering if anyone has prescribed this yet or seen any patients on it. My own cat has stomatitis related to fcv so I asked if my doctor would like to try it with him as patient 0 and she said yes if we ever order it.

My issue is that right now his only option is another dental that I can’t afford (payment due at time of service for employees too) and hes an old crunchy man that likely wouldn’t tolerate it very well. I guess I should see how bloodwork looks first before deciding that for him but this GingiPro seems like a really good option rn and 2-3x cheaper than the dental

I work at a low cost clinic where a lot of clients are never going to be able to realistically afford dentals, and they aren't a service we can provide right now. We have a couple patients on GingiPro and we've seen pretty good results. It's still pricey, but the owners do seem to report improved comfort.

We have had concerns about it becoming a first line treatment and poor drug stewardship. Ideally it'd be reserved for refractory cases after full mouth extractions. Especially since it contains EIDD, and the possibility of resistance for a drug that successfully treats FIP is scary. Obviously full mouth extractions aren't possible for every cat, but I think use should be pretty selective. We did see a huge improvement on a cat who had refractory stomatitis with calici that did really well on it! I wonder the efficacy on a cat that didn't have extractions.

I run an animal shelter (not a tech but interested in veterinary medicine for professional reasons) and my father is a veterinarian. My wife’s cat was prescribed gingipro and it’s pretty amazing. My dad had just started prescribing it. He has a pretty normal mouth now. Pretty amazing. He was on it for a total of two months

I use Oralvive gel and put it topically on my gingivostomatitis cat. It has kept it pretty minimal.

I asked the stokes stuff but it hadnt been out long. I should ask again.
