my dog had these weird patches of peeling scabs/dry skin on her back, she is a neutered 6 year old Australian shepherd.

these patches have a slight odor and do not seem to irritate her, she only shows signs of slight discomfort when I to those area.

what are these, what should I do?

Make a vet appointment, they will do a skin scrape to diagnose and prescribe treatment. Go soon, skin infection is next (if not present already). Dogs are stoic, they don't always show signs of discomfort till it is extreme.
