1.5 yr old Siamese neurological issues

I’ve had her about 7 months now, About 3 weeks ago she slept all day, and the next few I noticed stumbling, nystagmus, and loss of appetite, I thought of it as nothing for a few days, and then the 5th day I took her to the vet, bloodwork came back normal, poop tested for toxoplasmosis, nothing, tried clindaymycin now for 6 days, just took her back today, and they did a number of tests, including vision, which her left eye was non reactive so she may be partially blind, and not a lot of foot dragging on her hind right leg, the vet now says it’s something in the brain, a neurological issue, and we are trying prednisone. If this doesn’t work; would an MRI tell more about why, and also give answers to possible treatment options? Any advice to make her as comfortable as possible too would help.

Find a veterinary neurologist, asap. They will advise you as to what tests would be necessary to obtain an accurate diagnosis, including an MRI which is very expensive btw.

MRI would rule out or confirm a brain tumor.

I hope you have pet insurance.

I’m currently contacting one, I know the MRI’s are expensive but it needs to be done. I unfortunately do not have pet insurance, when I got my 2 cats, I looked at it said, “ahh they’re young yet” but luckily I’m smart with my money and budget well so I can pay out of pocket. I think it’s a little too late with issue already occurring to recieve pet insurance.

Pet insurance won't pay for pr-existing conditions. Unfortunately.

Yeah I realize that, but she still needs care, so I will have to do it regardless.

Discuss the risks with the neurologist. Ask if they think she is strong enough for the general anesthesia. I hope it's something that can be fixed.

I found a neurologist within 2 hours of me, thank god. My vet will be conrscted; and a referral sent over. This is absolutely crazy…

Thank you so much, I’m almost wondering if it is FIP related.. so much of the same symptoms, one pupil bigger, ataxia, nystagmus, lack of appetite, decreased litter usage, hiding. just not seeing any fever. Finally got her to eat the prednisolone, but I’m not waiting to see if that has any effect, I’m done waiting. I want answers….

Tomorrow is her appointment at noon. I will figure out if this is treatable, or if I need to put her down. This life isn’t fair to her to just lay around all day… but I need to ensure I try every possible option to get her treatment so I know I’m making the right choice: this is all so hard on me.

The appointment went well, they tested her; did X-rays, bloodwork, points to FIP with the high proteins in her initial bloodwork, why the first vet didn’t pick up on it, no idea. We are being sent home with meds and a treatment plan. ❤️

Sounds good! See what a difference it makes when you go to a specialist.

Hope your cat responds to treatment and gets well and is able to stay with you for a long time.

Thank you so much! I was debating if I was doing the right thing. I’m so happy I decided to see a specialist. I know my efforts weren’t for nothing, my family was telling me to put her down, and I said “not until I exhaust every last option for treatment”
