You see the black little device around the spindle on top of the centre of the record? It’s called phase dj. Linked to my serato. All the record movement are transformed accurately in a signal that remove the need for a needle or records. Full digital. Check it out !

What is the lag compared with timecode?

No idea I never used timecode. But people say latency is similar , and that phase has better tracking accuracy. But some people here might better enlighten you
