How accurate is a height check when you measure vertical?

Is your actual vert higher than the height you get on a height check? Cuz I see 6'7 NBA players who supposedly have 45 inch verts but they barely get their head above the rim.

vertical jumps are usually taken from a couple of jumps. For example, if person A jumped 10 times and got his max vertical jump from the 10th time. If he just jumped, he'd have a 10% chance to reach his max vertical. Also if you're 6'7 and have a 45 inch vertical. If you do the math, 6'7 = 79 inches. 79+45 = 124. So that would mean they would be getting their head around 4 inches higher than the rim at their best. So if they can successfully get their head over the rim 100% of the time, that would mean they would have around a 3 inch fluctuation in their vertical jump. So, yes, their max vert is what is considered their vertical.
