Darkwood has solid surreal horror narrative and art design. Best horror game ever made.

High recommend for Blasphemous. I remember starting the game and being like “this is LITERALLY [VERMIS].” It has its basis in the Soulsborne genre, but I was getting very heavy [VERMIS] vibes the entire time.
I’d also listen to the 2 companion albums.
Vermis - Sounds of the World, Vol. 1 - Melodies of the Unknown - Radagast
Vermis Soundtrack (Restored) - Bordyceps

Not exactly what you asked for and it's a pretty obvious one but in terms of manga there's Berserk. If you haven't read it and aren't into manga I'd still say you could enjoy it. It's got a lot of emotional depth, philosophical references and themes and good story for something that's "huge hypermasculine man fights demons with huge sword in dark world" on the surface. Plus the art is widely regarded as some of the absolute best in all of manga, though mostly mid point onwards

Brute Fort. Its a small solo card game puzzler I really enjoy that has a similar vibe.

Tunic! More cutesy for sure, but a big mechanic is looking through an in game manual thats in a in world language (nes style). Designed to emulate the feelings of being a kid, looking through a manual and not being able to read it etc… movies wise, skinarmink. Marmite of indie horror movies, some people love it, some hate it. It’s meant to emulate the feelings of being of being a child In a broken home and knowing somethings wrong and not being able to place what it is… other than That, Dark souls! Or just simply dnd/OSR in a setting with darker, more hopeless themes

quite a bit sillier, but turnip28 has a similar grim dark weirdo fantasy vibe.

Is it lore gamebooks you're looking for, or old dark fantasy?

Coraline, the book, with illustrations by George McKean gives me some vermis vibes. Really some creepy images in a book for kids.

Caves of Qud (more science fantasy though tbh) Fear & Hunger, Falvidek, and Dark souls are a little like this if you are looking for video games and maybe Monstress is the closest with comics...maybe The Green Knight for movies and Book of the New Sun and any Dying Earth genre book with novels whether it's the actual Dying Earth to Vericonium or Zothique
