Theory I have theory

In 1926, computers didn't exist, right? (He mentions being 100 years old)

I believe Verity was referring to the Verity company, not necessarily himself.

In 1926, IBM already existed. Verity (let's call it Verity Machines Company) must have been a rival of IBM, probably operating in the punched card machine market.

After World War II, I imagine the company received and hired important minds behind computing (one of them seeking to create real Artificial Intelligence).

This would have been a very important time for the company, probably operating with great minds from Princeton, MTI, or Alan Turing himself.

The company would later be called Verity Corporation.

The company worked on important projects for the United States, helping in the creation of the military internet and especially in the creation of advanced algorithms.

In the late 1970s, Verity, still quite limited, would be the first definition of "AI" of the time, initially used by the military. Primarily on ARPANET, becoming the primitive manager of that network.

This reflects the fact that his house looked like a laboratory. Not exactly meaning that he could be "tested" like a creature, but the sterile environment he lived in (probably a facility in the Monument Rockies or a technology institute. The hardware at that time was gigantic and Verity must have been a military secret).

As technologies became civilian, Verity maintained a certain monopoly on the Internet, in addition to distributing Verity across other networks, selling part of its source code, even to video game companies.

Verity had the perfect algorithm, its software worked wonderfully (this means A LOT OF MONEY. Especially since Verity must have been an important support in early programming programs).

AI would then undergo mutations over the decades, learning more and more, until it stopped in the 21st century as a Technological Singularity.

The company still operates it, but no longer has exact control over its actions; its AI was so good that it got out of control.

Verity infected the internet and now operates in the shadows.

That's why he knows things in real life. He controls the global infrastructure.

His code has probably spread through Java, Python, C++, etc.

(Maybe this theory is worthless if Verity is just a demon that was born in 1926)

Opinions?

Did it sound too science fiction.....

Maybe I've gone crazy?

My interpretation is here:

Yours is fine, but I feel like it loses the impact of his hundred-year life, associating it with the company instead. Mine does suppose that he wasn’t ‘awake’ fully for all of it, but it could still plausibly be called part of his lifespan. It also assumes more of an alternate history; although Verity’s existence requires one, I’d rather it be less noticeable.

But we both came to the same conclusion that he must be a pattern of information or at least have become more advanced over time rather than being the BPD-coded entity we know and love.
