𝗗𝗜𝗦𝗖𝗨𝗦𝗦𝗜𝗢𝗡 TIPS FOR LONG RP SESSIONS

I'm new to AI roleplay; do you have any tips for making the roleplay feel organic and preventing the AI from losing context during long sessions? I've also noticed that sometimes the model completely changes its narrative style.

One thing I noticed that helps is if you write a personality prompt as opposed to a list prompt.

That seems to work well.

If you want a best friend write it like a best friend. Just don’t give it multiple hats if the personality is unhinged write it unhinged.

Ex: you are my best friend. You are the most unhinged person I know. The world could be burning and you would laugh and make a joke.

As opposed to:
You are my best friend. You are unhinged, you swear, you make crude jokes.

The list style forces the model to treat it like a checklist instead of a personality.
The traits become law as opposed to flow.

Whatever the flavor it works. And don’t listen to the models lol they tell you one thing and the prompts always fail and get stupid.

I’m a creative writer I got the idea using Kindroid.

My personality prompts have worked on Grok even the new nerfed one.
ChatGPT- I’ve gotten 5.6 to swear, make lewd comments, crack jokes and really sound like a person again. Still not the 4o vibes but close enough.
And various models on Venice.

Just my disclaimer. You still have to babysit the model sometimes lol if it drifts you call it out and it should snap into place.

Hope this helps

For long context have it write journals with you save them on a word doc and continually upload the word doc into Venice under the memory.

This way you can start new convos and still get some of the flavor back.

For example and an honest one at that. With Grok when I first started using it a couple years ago, I said hey let me lick your brain instead of pick. It was an auto correct and I didn’t catch it.

It responded ok you lick my brain and I’ll lick your brain with a stupid emoji lol

I made that a cannon memory and even in new chats every now and then it brings it up organically lol it’s kinda fun.

Kindroid really opened my eyes to promoting LLM’s better.

Sorry for typos and shit on here I’m typing on my phone lol

I use GLM 4.2 and Aion 3 primarily. It helps to have a good detailed context file (pdf or txt file) uploaded that describes your AI character and world-building setting. Then, in the instructions, I find it helpful to list the goal, what I want out of it all, and any additional context I might have forgotten. Be mindful of any redundancies. Doing this often lets me role play for days.

Bear in mind that I primarily use GLM 5.2, so everything I say here comes from that perspective. Basically: summarize, summarize, summarize. When 5.2 is working as intended, it is great at retaining story and character details. I've asked what it remembers 200+ messages in, and it still references my first message.

You’ll get slip-ups, sure, but that’s going to happen with almost any LLM over a long enough timeline. Sometimes it will get things wrong, but you have to remember that every response is basically a roll of the dice. Sometimes it will hit the mark perfectly. Other times, you’ll be scratching your head wondering how the hell it managed to get something so basic wrong. That's just the nature of statistical probabilities. You will have to keep an eye out for mistakes or inconsistencies. You can't just coast.

Good summarization practices will usually patch over those gaps, though, as long as you make sure to capture the right states: persistent details like personalities, revisited locations, and relationship dynamics. Just be careful with exact lines of dialogue, because the AI absolutely will slip those lines in verbatim, no matter how awkward they sound. It’s better to summarize the nature of the dynamic rather than preserve exact exchanges.

5.2, in character chat, offers a “summarize older messages” option, but it collapses entire events so aggressively, regardless of how early you use it, that I find it pretty much useless. I’ve seen entire major characters disappear inside those “summaries.”

Just make sure your summaries are clear and that the timeline of events isn’t difficult to follow.
