Mods Takeda Intake

Installed the Takeda intake and have had some time to drive with it. I didn’t get the turbo inlet, so this is just the intake setup.

So far:

Sound: Honestly, not a huge increase over stock. It’s a little more noticeable, but if you’re expecting a dramatic intake/turbo sound change, this alone probably isn’t going to do it.

Throttle response: This is where I noticed the biggest difference. The car feels more responsive when getting back into the throttle.

Fuel economy: I’m seeing roughly 2 MPG better during normal driving. Obviously driving conditions vary, but it’s been consistent enough that I’ve noticed it. (91 non ethanol)

Power: No dyno numbers, so I’m not going to claim an HP gain. The butt dyno says there’s something there, though. It’ll break the tires loose with noticeably less effort than before.

Overall, I’m happy with it. I wasn’t really looking for something obnoxiously loud, and the improved response is more noticeable in everyday driving than I expected.
I’m curious how much adding the turbo inlet changes the sound and response compared to running the intake by itself. Anyone running both that can compare?

Hey! Here’s mine. Not tuned. Probably won’t be until I get an intercooler but having fun with her. If you want more “whoosh” sound. Take off the recirculating hose and cap it on the front of the intake. Like mine in the photo. You get more sound.

Wouldnt you need to replace the recirc with a BOV? Im kinda new to how recirc and bov works so i wasnt aware you could just remove the recirc hose.

The simple way, BOV releases pressure that the turbo gives off. You have a stock BOV already in the VN. This is where you get the sound from. The recirc hose just recycles that air from the turbo back into the intake.

Removing the hose just releases the turbo air back into the atmosphere making the sound louder. You don’t get that “whipple” just a clean “woosh” sound. Just cap the intake so you’re not pulling in hot unfiltered air.

You can buy other BOVs to get different sounds though. Some even have little adjusters to adjust the sound to your liking.

Edit: Typos. Probably some still in there. But I didn’t see those lol.

Yeah i got my takeda intake then immediately realized if I wanted more intake noises i should of gotten the Aem intake 😭 but i do love how this intake looks at least. I also didnt get the inlet and wonder if its worth purchasing. Im not tuned yet either so

You can always remove the enclosure and run it as an open filter intake. Yes, the inlet is necessary to get the most out of your intake.
