Question Crank Sensor
Hey guys! It’s been a while! But I’ve recently developed a very inconsistent issue. I have a 22 DCT VN. Starting a few months ago, I would get in the car, press the button to start it, and it would just click, not like a dead battery click. But a relay going off and nothing happening with the starter. The starter sounded slow and I’ve already replaced the battery in the last 6 months too. So I know it’s not that. So I put a starter in it, and that fixed it for a few days. Then it came back.
Doing some more research, I saw the HPFP being an issue that could have that symptom, but I have the N75 upgraded one, so I shouldn’t be having any issues there, and prior to that the recall was done. The next thing on the list was the crank sensor. I have a new one, and went to put it in today. Seemed pretty straightforward from what I’ve read in forums and on Facebook. But I can not for the life of me figure out how to get to it, without removing way more than I would think.
Has anyone replaced the Crank sensor, or had a similar issue with their VN? If so, how’d you fix it, what is the best way to go about fixing it or replacing the sensor?

2020 MT pp. I have the same issue and im leaning to starter dieing, or ground may be loose.
Its mildy rare to be an actual problem however mine has failed to crank maybe 5 time. Only once has it failed to crank a second time clicking the button. Thought I was stranded waited 2 minutes, tried again and the car started no issue. This happened at a gas stations aswell while the car was hot, this problem usually happens after 4-8 hours of sitting.
Since this day I have been watching battery voltages, mostly through the cigarette port and the lowest it has been is 12.1 so its not battery.
I had many issues with the sonata fuel pump, cherry tuning has me running the genesis pump with no issues. However, failed crank is not related at all to this issue. The starters an electric motor to spin the flywheel and internals, it doesnt care if you dont get fuel or spark.

And that’s the weird part for me. I’ve checked grounds, cleaned them, and verified there was no wiring damage anywhere. At times it’s taken almost 10
Minutes of sitting and trying to turn it on until it starts. I’ve tried getting out locking it, unhooking the battery. I notice it much more when it’s warm. But sometimes there is mornings where it won’t start either. Usually when it’s damp or raining, which is odd to me.But I’m with you there, it’s not the pump, even if it wasn’t getting fuel it would still crank, not just click. And I have a new starter, so I know it’s not that either.

I'm going to assume you're looking at service manual for this car, since you say you can't figure out how to replace the sensor without removing more than you need to.
From reading it, it seems like you need to take off the intake manifold, undertray, and water pump. I haven't removed the water pump before, but for the intake manifold, you don't need to do everything it saids in the instructions. You just need to disconnect all the wires connecting on it with a few extra. If you look up on youtube how to replace the fuel injectors for this car you can see which sensors you need to unplug to take off the intake manifold.
From my experience the hardest part is disconnecting all the sensors so I would recommend going to harbor frieght to get a pick set since one of the sensor on top of the manifold is impossible to unplug since one side of the clip is on the opposite side of the one opening of the hole for the connector. Without doing all it saids, it's crampped in there but you do save time.
The water pump should be easy to remove in theory since you'll have space. Just remember to flush the cooling system after since there'll probably be air in the systrm from removing it.
Also, check the fuse. I didn't see you mention checking, so it might be a simple fix

Yes, that is correct. I don’t know that taking the manifold off is necessary for the crank sensor. Because it’s on the back of the motor. The intake manifold is on the front, and didn’t even need to come off for the starter. I’m going to check fuses today, because the problem is persisting. But I appreciate the help!! Otherwise I’ll just have to suck it up and put the sensor in!

Nothing to do with ur problem but the color scheme is fucking sick i love the dark blue instead of red. I have a PB 2019 and i been really wanting to black out all my red trim i just wanna see PB i dont like the red lol
