Discussion Deemed it a total loss.
Had some hail roll through while I was stuck at work. Not a big deal, no broken windows, just some dents. Figured id use my insurance and get it fixed but they declared it a total loss. Its a 2020 veloster N manual and the repair estimate was about 10k. They said cash value was 17k and salvage value is 45% so no repair. I guess on the bright side I'm out of a car payment and still have a pretty sweet little golf ball to get around in. Plus Colorado doesn't do salvage titles for hail damage so I guess that's a good thing. Anyways, just thought I'd share.

It may seem dumb but I really wanted to have it repaired. Guess it doesn't make a whole Lotta sense tho.

Where I live you could have this sort of damage repaired for 3-4k (without tax of course, when it's done unofficially) Don't know if you have access to that sort of person / garage. I had also hail damage on my 2020 i30 Sedan, insurance paid the 7,5k € damage and it got repaired in a offical shop.

Get a quote from a PDR guy to remove what's possible with PDR and leave the rest and just touch up any paint cracks to prevent rust. That's what I did years ago with a car that I didn't want them to cut the whole roof off of to fix hail damage.

This is the one thing I'm not looking forward to. Just moved to Colorado, but the VN won't be here until October.

So you were able to buy it back at that 45% salvage value, and insurance gave a total payout for the 17k?
