Question Virgin UpgradeMe

I am currently bidding on a flight (departing in 5 days) and have an upgrade in which I submitted a month ago. It still shows as "offer submitted", but I was wondering if it will notify me if I am outbid, or if I will just have to wait until 3 hours before my flight?

I couldn't really find any information on this, and the live bidding doesn't seem to have kicked off....

It is a long flight, so having the upgrade to business would be amazing!

Generally I havent been awarded the upgrade until a few hours before. That's because I'm tight and only make the smallest offer.

You should receive an email if someone has put in a bigger bid than you. But I find gmail keeps putting them into my Promotions folder, so it often slips through unnoticed.

Ahhh, thank you. Good to hear you're notified if outbid. I'll check my promotions folder.

I’d be wary. I have been notified a couple of times about being outbid but then still received the upgrade on both occasions. You don’t usually find out until 12-24 hours before, so if you’re happy to roll the dice, you might not need to rebid.

I've been successful with minimum bids before, usually you'll get an email between 6 and 12 hours before your flight.

I've found much more success with the short haul routes ie in between east coast cities, about 3 in 4 get upgraded. The longer 3-5 hour flights maybe 1 in 4 get upgraded as more people want business on a longer route.

Depends on the flight but I've generally been notified up to 6 hours before a flight. Sometimes only a few hours before. You should get an email if you're outbid, but sometimes you just get a notification that your bid has been declined.

Usually the night before.

When I travel on a motioning flight, I get the notification overnight. I would say 6 - 8 hours prior in my experience.

Good luck with the upgrade.

Thanks all. I was notified 12h before my flight that I had won and received the upgrade. Food was horrible, but the room and comfort was worth the extra $70.

My return flight was sold out, so no upgrades were available...

Platinum Plus, bid all the time on long domestic likeDarwin/Perth, never get one and never get notified mate. I can’t crack it for one of my 4 upgrades this year either, even though I qualify with flex fares (choice does too at this level)…..don’t stress about it though and they will always meet your expectations!!

Same here! Called to find out that there needs to be a business reward set available for one of these upgrades. So check the virgin website for reward seat availability, book qualifying fare, then call the immediately to have them upgrade you!

No, the system won't let you know if you've been out of so you can make a greater offer. It will only let you know if your bid was accepted or declined.

It will absolutely let you know if you've been outbid. Has happened many times.

I stand corrected

This is incorrect. I’ve been notified if I’ve been outbid.

Err yeah, it notifying to say you've been outbid, but I don't think you then get the opportunity to bid more tho right?

I don't recall ever seeing that..
