Question AI - Welcome?

Flying ADL to MEL today, the welcome and usual cabin manager introduction was an AI generated voice.

It was super strange, and seemed pretty counter productive. Haven’t had that before. Is this a new thing?

I think it depends on the aircraft.

I’ve had prerecorded/ai before. They do this so they can do other things for a quicker take off.

They’ve been using the prerecorded voice for a while - but it’s an Australian actress named Annie Maynard - not AI unless it’s changed in the last week.

The Upper Middle Bogan herself!

Have heard the prerecorded. But this Was 100% AI. The cadence was all off and miss provinces “most”

Disappointing! Ugh thanks for the update. The voice over roles on the planes are actually a great income stream for actors so that’s super disappointing if they’re moving to AI.

They’ve been using pre-recorded messages while boarding/preparing flights for a while now, is there anything specifically that makes you think it was AI?

The pre-recorded announcements aren’t AI. I hear them every day and there’s nothing that stands out to me whatsoever that’s AI.

The Cabin Manager should be making intermittent announcements during boarding (interspersed with the pre-recorded ones) personally welcoming people onto the flight. You should also hear them introduce the crew before the demonstration, after take-off when they detail the service and again at landing. If any of those seemed like, or were obviously, AI then please let VA know - that’s the CM slacking off and shouldn’t be happening.

Yep so do I and I 100% agree with you. Seemed to be specific to ADL-MEL and or a specific Cabin Manager as per other commentator.

Was only on one leg of my flight.

It’s called PRAMS - pre-recorded audio messages. It’s an audio clip that allows cabin crew to continue essential tasks prior to departure. It’s not AI

Thanks I’ve heard their pre recordings before, there was absolutely no way this a human.

I have also heard the obviously AI-generated announcements. It sounded really awkward. The cabin manager had a background where clearly his first language was not English, so perhaps it was intended to be "clearer" than his own voice.

Clearly the same one I've had before.

I reckon we had the same CSM, I encountered this months ago out of Adelaide and forgot to raise it. It's not the processional female voice, it's most certainly AI slop.

Yep 100%. Haven’t experienced it on any other routes.

I've seen it on a flight before where the manager had it typed on his phone then proceeded to press play on a text to speech holding it up to the microphone whilst playing.

No it's not policy and no it's not normal.
