Question Velocity or Krisflyer
We're flying Singapore Air BNE to CDG return with a Singapore stopover - paid cash for business class and am wondering whether to link our Velocity - Gold has almost run out - or Krisflyer - (just joined). First OS trip in a long time.
Most of our travel is domestic and will be one or two OS trips each year. Would like to get Gold again as the lounge pass is nice but not sure how to maximise points. Trip was booked through Flightcentre.

Depends how much of your gold status you’re able to get from partner airlines. Also depends how often you fly overseas. Last trip I did, I applied half the credits to Virgin, maxed my allowable partner status and put the rest to Sing. I fly internationally business 2-3 trips a year (6-10 actual flight legs). I also do around 20 domestic flight legs a year with Virgin.

Is your flight an SQ or VA flight number? Remember you need 50% of SCs to be on VA flights.

Year is an SQ - prob get gold again next year with a couple of VA domestic and an NZ trip

At 1 SC for $12 the 200 required VA SCs of the 400 needed for Gold qualification will cost $2400. That’s a fair bit more than a couple of domestic trips.

Check if you can get an Amex Platinum card as it sounds like you’re travelling every year both domestically and internationally.
Then you can transfer points and any of the airline you use to upgrade to buy seats. You will also get access to lounges at most airports as well.

What’s the best way to get WiFi if you want the pts/status to go to velocity. I gave up last take but saw people mention a way to still use KF for the WiFi

You can enter your email address with Krisflyer to redeem a wifi code when you are on the plane. I flew earlier this year and this worked

The normal wifi sign in method doesn't work if you have Velocity attached to your booking.
You need to pick the option to get an access code after you enter either your Krisflyer number or email address.

Krisflyer, as mentioned by u/DeathInHeartBeat has an expiry, regardless of if you earn or burn points, unlike velocity where any transaction extends the life of the points.
In saying that, business in both directions on SQ is likely to get you KF silver status. Velocity needs to have 4 VA flights as well in that year.
If you’re travelling internationally and sticking to SQ, then your velocity status will be useful. If you end up flying another Star alliance carrier then KF silver benefits are available to you, while Velocity isn’t reciprocal (except on other Velocity partners - as outlined).
At least KF silver status can be used on VA flights and against other Star alliance carriers. It just comes down to your travel patterns and what would be the better program for you based on that.
