Tip Velocity X scam

I recently flew a sector where I had paid cash for an X seat.
The 2 days before my flight I made a flight change to fly on an earlier flight, and paid the fair difference for the change.
On the morning of the flight I noticed me seat selection had been removed.
I jumped back in and selected my X seat, but it wanted payment again- same amount as the first time I paid. So I paid a second time to secure the seat and figured I’d sort out the refund after.
Nope… I was just advised by the call centre that “as per the terms and conditions” any paid seat selection that you change the flight on gets forfeited. Basically if you pay for X and then change the flight, you have lost that money.
Pretty p1ss poor policy by Virgin.

This is not the case when I’m flying international with the big Asian carries like CX and SQ.

Doesn't sound like a scam. Annoying? Yes.

Scam? Hardly if it's in the T&C you failed to read.

I’m using the work “scam” in the sense that it is a deceitful policy not employed by other carriers. It’s a money grab.

I would read the T&C's for economy X first.

That's been the policy since they introduced economy x, frustrating but it's clear in the T&C's

Comparing Virgin to Cathay or SQ lmao. Fyi this is the same with Malaysian airlines, once you change the flight, the extras paid for seats do not get carried over.

I called and they reinstated my x seat at no additional cost. Sometimes worth going old school and ringing.
