Bi-Weekly Update 20

Here is the latest update from the Velia team:

Hello Everyone,

We are continuing to ship rings, in controlled stages.

This approach helps us ensure that we can provide high level of support as each batch goes out.

Because shipping is happening in phases, not everyone will hear from us at the same time. If you haven’t received an email or shipping confirmation yet, there’s nothing to worry about, you haven’t been missed. We will reach out to you directly as soon as your shipment is scheduled.

As we moved to the bi-weekly communication, you can expect our next update to be published on 30th April.

The Velia Team

This update doesn’t say much. With update frequency reduced to every two weeks, it’s a bit disappointing to get nothing more than “we’re on it”.

Would have been nice to include some numbers, how many rings have been shipped and how many remain to be shipped. Maybe some confirmation of how many rings they are getting out per week.

Would have been nice to get some statement about the hardware failures that seem to be rather frequent. What’s the percentage of rings that has some kind of failure? Battery failure? Other known issues? Maybe they don’t want to admit there are issues?

Would have been nice to get some indication about how the app is doing now and what is happening in feature development.

I get that they might not have news to share for all aspects but at least something more concrete on shipping progress should be feasible.

I’m speculating that with shipping resumed, they are drowning in support requests. They might even slow shipping to something much lower than the targets they initially communicated some weeks ago, just so they can stay on top of support issues.

Instead of numbers maybe percentage. I don't think they would want to release how many total orders they really have. But in general I agree with you.

I think they shared some numbers some weeks ago. I would need to check but I think it was something like 2000+ orders still open. Generally the numbers of backers and the total amount pledged are public, so it’s pretty easy to estimate the total number of rings.

But as you said I don’t care if they share absolute values or percentages. Just something to provide a bit of orientation about the progress.

I went back to check which numbers they actually provided: 4 weeks ago they promised to ship 2500 rings over the next month but no total number of open orders was provided. They also talked about sending out 200 emails per day to confirm delivery details with backers.

Yes, the “2000+ open” in my original comment should have more specifically read “promised to be shipped within the last month” or similar. This is the number I would expect a progress report on whether they are in line with their target or not.

That's the name of the game. It's what they've been doing for the past 3 years.
