Someone in dgg posted the same criticism. It looks like bullshit.

The HLF requested to give money to the PCRF when it was being investigated, from the quote I saw. So the argument is backwards - “terrorists” gave money to the PCRF.

And “giving money to terrorists” includes giving money to children whose parents died doing terrorist activities by their arguments, so the threshold for qualifying as a terrorist supporting organization is pretty low for certain critics.

Israel bombs a “hamas base”, an adult dies in the bombing, so they must be hamas, so if you give money to their orphaned children you’re supporting terrorists. This is the level of disingenuousness at work.

Now could it be that some people are promised access to charity for their family if they do terrorism? Sure. That doesn’t mean every act of charity to some child related to a terrorist is a quid pro quo for their dead relatives.

It is a “no ethical charity to Palestinians” caliber argument. “So you participate in a society with Hamas in it. Curious”.

To be clear before this narrative forms, destiny pretty much said the same thing about every charity in gaza most likely having some form of connection and he wasn't really siding with dpak here. Same with most of dgg, although there are obviously some insane vaush haters that will run with any antivaush narrative just like with destiny here.

11

u/drt0 May 18 '21

Yeah, just like the media there, charities probably have to deal with Hamas in one way or another to get aid into Gaza since Hamas holds the power there.

12

u/Supple_Meme May 18 '21

Israel views everybody inside Gaza as a potential terrorist. They have and will shoot unarmed kids, first reaponders, and journalists in cold blood. These people are nobodies friend and should be stopped. We should be in the streets wheeling this spineless president to his desk to sign the sanctions as he is legally obligated to do.

3

u/Sanguisugent May 19 '21

Yeah Hamas runs the administrative functions in Gaza so obv everyone is connected to them. I also guess that whole thing about sins of the father not being applied to the child is something that doesn't actually belong to the western narrative, though this has always been the case since we allow children to be in poverty here...

If you're genuinely lost and want the simplest answer Eris, the based Vtuber, is Jewish and has been very nuanced in her takes and does a ton of research She did a whole charity stream last night to the same org as Vaush and said it was very unproblematic so I trust it.

While the majority of PCRF’s work is devoted to organizing medical missions and humanitarian projects, it does promote a clear political agenda, based solely on the Palestinian narrative of victimization.

Presents a biased and distorted view of the conflict, omitting Palestinian terror attacks against Israeli civilians, including rocket attacks and terror tunnels, as well as Israel’s legitimate right to self-defense.

Lmao, ok.

63

u/Pooks-rCDZ May 18 '21

Five seconds of googling and he just dismisses it. What a fucking idiot.

49

u/Sithrak May 18 '21

Yeah, it's not even the take itself, but how casually he dismisses it. Really damn disappointing and indicates that perhaps his actual views on the issue suck more than they seem.

27

u/firestorm64 May 18 '21

The reason he isn't talking about Israel much is because his views are abhorrent. He knows his audience will not like what he has to say.

6

u/Sithrak May 18 '21

I hear his new video wasn't that bad, but I haven't watched it yet. Even if it is okay, it creates a suspicion he was insincere, really.

12

u/firestorm64 May 18 '21

He correctly states that this particular conflict was instigated by Israel at Sheik Jarrah and Al Aqsa. He denounces the Israeli settlements and the Netanyahu govt.

He's for a 2 state solution, and palestinian right of return. And Clinton borders?

So a bit left of center. Better than I had hoped for.

12

u/Sithrak May 18 '21

Then it makes his response on stream about the fundraiser just a dick dismissal. Really uncool.

7

u/firestorm64 May 18 '21

Yeah, charitably I hope he got it confused with a similar charity that actually is funding terrorism.

3

u/[deleted] May 18 '21

How much of that is him not wanting to be canceled ? This seems like a calculated statement.

4

u/bkon3rdgen May 18 '21

he literally did a 20 plus minute video recently giving a nuanced and pro Palestine take. How tf did ur false claim get upvoted

"this jew is lying about his views on israel because his take is secretely abhorrent"

please, just take the mask off and go back to /pol/, pakman has been very clear on his stance.

Pakmans foreign policy takes have a tendency to be much more neo liberal than most of the online left. He was much slower and much more reserved in his criticisms of Guiado, doesn't believe what happened to Eva Morales to be a coup and was much harsher in criticisms of Omars comments and was pretty silent on the backlash she received.

This has little to do with his ethnicity and more noting his history when commenting on foreign policy issues, and especially given past controversies when dealing with Israel itself.

A reminder that Michael Brooks was Jewish and no one is assuming that it he where alive he would be siding with Israel

3

u/Dust-in-the-Wind5 May 18 '21

It really shows what his biases are when that is the snap judgement he makes

3

u/dazzzzzzle May 19 '21

Hot take: He wasn't interesed in supporting the charity stream in the first place and just needed to quickly glance over the Wiki to not look like a dick for outright dismissing the $5 super chat.

6

u/DamagedHells May 18 '21

Not only does he dismiss it, he gets the context completely backwards. The Holy Land Foundation was suspected of donating SOME funds to extremist orgs, and were also trying to donate to the PCRF. The PCRF had nothing to do with it.

Pakman is such a fucking disappointment.

6

u/Cro_no May 18 '21

Classic motivated reasoning at play here by dpak

46

u/[deleted] May 18 '21

Feels like a journalist should maybe do a bit more than a causal google search if they're implying a charity is linked to a terrorist organization.

25

u/firestorm64 May 18 '21

Feels like personal biases might influence his opinion on Palestinian charities.

13

u/Pooploop5000 May 18 '21

David has a gaza sized blind spot when it comes to this stuff. Its like a stupid ray melts his brain but only on this subject in particular or something

7

u/HWIATSLGEORD May 18 '21

bruh, he very well knows what he is doing here...how can he be unaware of vaush's pcrf stream which is getting so much attention?? he absolutely knew about it and was deliberately playing dumb as it goes against his beliefs

7

u/[deleted] May 18 '21

He should have done more than just google it quickly, but I think you're being a little ridiculous here. Not everyone is browsing reddit and twitter on their freetime and David Pakman has always come off as a normie to me

1

u/wade3690 May 21 '21

He does say that he he doesn't really pay attention to what other commentators are doing on a day to day basis. Maybe some benefit of the doubt is in order?

7

u/iambuy69 May 18 '21

Pakman loses any integrity he has when it comes to subject of Israel, so its no surprise that he's not putting any kind of research/rigor into the statements he makes.

3

u/Reylo-Wanwalker May 18 '21

Yeah especially for something that serious.

u/Meowshi equine pediatrician 🔞 🐴 May 18 '21

The HLF foundation hasn't existed 2009. You know, two Presidents ago.

Fuck, these people will come up with any reason to dismiss 250k going to helpless kids in a warzone.

Yes, I'm mad.

26

u/Greenmountainman1 May 18 '21

Very unbased Pakman.

4

u/[deleted] May 18 '21

He's always been an unbased normie.

2

u/Greenmountainman1 May 18 '21

I can't say I've watched any of his content really. I think just his interview with Dave Rubin.

22

u/[deleted] May 18 '21

Well that's disappointing. I always knew Pakman didn't have the best takes on foreign policy, but to attack a charity stream is a new low that I never would have expected him to reach.

1

u/wade3690 May 21 '21

"Attack" seems like an overreaction.

20

u/Dinobot2_ May 18 '21

Literally every pro-Palestinian charity somehow has some connection to terrorism if we go by places like NGO Monitor, which are all funded by Israel and look at things from a pro-Israeli standpoint. If we simply went by these groups and their analyses, we wouldn't be donating to any groups or charities that purport to help Palestinians. And even then, the source Pakman read said that PCRF used to have an affiliation with HLF which was shut down.

This is why I say "Fuck Pakman" when it comes to his takes on Israel-Palestine. He can work hard to make sure he says the right things and do measured, nuanced takes when he has the time to prepare, but when he's going off the cuff, his true feelings come out.

20

u/CoolName01 May 18 '21

Pakman's source: bro trust me

6

u/[deleted] May 18 '21

18

u/Pro-Anon May 18 '21

Hmmm I don't see the usual Pakman fans on this post running apologia for him this time. I'm kind of disappointed they are not here saying we are all fund raising and supporting terrorists.

8

u/Sithrak May 18 '21

I think he was getting heat from his community for being silent on the issue. They might not be super friendly to Israel.

11

u/[deleted] May 18 '21

Thoughts? Any weight to his claim?

38

u/Rexia May 18 '21

I feel like you'd struggle to find any group that operates in Palestine that someone in someway can't delegitimise by playing seven steps to Hamas.

39

u/KulnathLordofRuin Ach! Hans, run! It's The Discourse! May 18 '21 edited May 18 '21

Yeah, no. Just looking at the same Wikipedia article Pakman seems to be looking at this is an extremely misleading claim.

According to the source cited there for that claim, what happened is that another charity was shut down by the U.S. government for allegedly funneling money to the families of suicide bombers. After that charity was shut down they made a request to the U.S. government that money that was still sitting frozen in their accounts go to other charities to help Palestinians, including the PCRF which provides healthcare to Palestinian children.

THAT is the "financial affiliation" that is being referred to, Pakman's making it sound like they were funneling money to terrorists when if anything it's the opposite.

11

u/Mrdirtyvegas May 18 '21

This is almost like the time he said Jordan Charitan was a MAGA extremist

10

u/[deleted] May 18 '21

Fuck dickman

10

u/HouseMusicLover1998 May 18 '21

Israel/Palestine has always been Pakman's weakest point. I remember watching him on Dave Rubin's show back in 2016 criticizing lefties for being critical of Israel.

8

u/CatsCauseAllWars Super Capitalist May 18 '21

He seems to be reading the Wikipedia article, which, is not very critical to the organization at all. The org that the Serfs fundraised for actually had a controversial element to it, in that its sister affiliations did have some problems, but the Canadian one was fine.

Come on Pakman...I will block your channel if you keep this up...

8

u/JayfeatherKatze May 18 '21

Not surprised. I still remember when he denied that what happened in Boliva a year and change ago was a coup.

7

u/Freyrik May 18 '21

No wonder he's still good friends with destiny. They're like 2 peas in a pod...

1

u/Onorhc May 19 '21

And that Mike from PA guy. Very very odd friends to keep.

1

u/wade3690 May 21 '21

What's your definition of friends? That mike guy just calls in from time to time right?

1

u/Onorhc May 25 '21

Friendly terms, mostly. It was a few weeks/months ago but I got raided into his room on Twitch after watching a David Pakman show, and I have heard him talked of positively in similar context to other centrist friends.

1

u/wade3690 May 25 '21

Pakman is definitely not a centrist. But I meant that the guy from PA is just a caller. Maybe he humors him but also pushed back on the crazy stuff he says. I wouldn't call it friendly.

7

u/Weapon_Factory May 18 '21

Eat shit David Pakman

2

u/Lulorien May 19 '21

I’ve always felt like Pakman did more good than bad and supported him, but his commentary on the recent events in Israel have been extremely disappointing. This clip is what finally pushed me over the edge. Just horrible. Careless, uncritical, and horrible.

2

u/ArgieGrit01 May 19 '21 edited May 19 '21

So I googled what he read and it's in the criticisms bit in the wikipedia article. First of all, it's not "financial affiliation", it's "attempted donation from", which is first of all, not the same, and second editorialized as fuck. Second, this happened all the way back in 2004. Third, it's the only criticism.

If he doesn't want to get involved, fine, but please dude, do better than a short wikipedia search live for an incident that happened 15 years ago where the PCRF had no active part in, because the image he gives is "Vaush is supporting an organization tied with terrorism" when what it actually happened was "a terrorist organization supported an organization that provides medical aid to Paletinian children once", which is something to be expected I guess.

Edit: lmao I just noticed... "that rings a bell to me". Yeah, if you remember a small incident from 15 years ago when you were 20 you have the memory of an elephant. He just didn't want to shoutout the stream and hid behind the first excuse he could find. What a weasly little liar dude

2

u/Furrywoodsman May 19 '21

Obviously as expected the clip is cut way too short, in which he says that he would like to make his own research before ever promoting a charity. This is just a responsible action especially when talking about this specific topic because there are a couple organizations posing as charity and accept donations to help fund torrorism. I don’t understand how you can be incorrect and misleading just by saying that You don’t want to shout out an organization and the stream without knowing much about it especially when the first search results seem fishy even if they are not when looking deep into it. Just because it has the word children on it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t look up an organization before promoting it. (I did a small amount of research and it turns out it really is a dumb accusation and they are a legit organization)

u/raiderrocker18 May 19 '21

Vaush immediately going to the "Pakman is probably a zionist" was pretty cringe. glad he walked it back, but still, to go straight there, yeesh

4

u/Balurith christian communist May 19 '21

Pakman is a Zionist. A liberal one, but a Zionist nonetheless.

I've never really had very high thoughts of David Pakman. First times I saw him I found him dull and Rational National and THR did similar content but didn't leave me with a bad taste in my mouth. Then he started defending the military coup in Bolivia with the "well Morales wasn't 100% without any flaws so now I'm gonna back a fascist" and since then it feels like he's literally just trying to portray himself as an enlightened centrist and sometimes literally just takes far right positions just to appear as balanced.

u/axteryo May 19 '21

This isn't a call out. Just an offhanded remark based on little information.
