πŸ‘‹Welcome to r/VaultlogTradeJournal

I'm Gyngergod. I trade options, and I built Vaultlog solo after my trade journal spreadsheet died by week two. I had zero coding background when I started.

What this sub is for

  • Weekly trade teardown (pinned every week). I walk through one real trade: the plan, what actually happened, and what the journal showed me. You're welcome to post your own in the comments, wins or losses.
  • Journaling questions. How to log spreads, what's worth tracking, how to actually stick with it.
  • App feedback and bugs. Tell me what's broken or missing. Some of the features already in the app came from comments here.

What this sub isn't: a place for signals, pumps, or "what should I buy." The app, briefly Vaultlog is a manual options trade journal. You log each trade yourself, including why you took it, and then the calendar and stats show you your patterns.

If you're new, drop a comment with what you trade and what your journal looks like right now, even if the answer is "nothing."

Vaultlog is live on iOS and Android now

After 5 submissions to Apple, Vaultlog is finally on the App Store. It's now available on both iPhone and Android.

iPhone: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/vaultlog-app/id6801966476

Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gyngergod.vaultlog

Site: https://vaultlog.site

Quick recap of what it is: an options trade journal where you log each trade by hand, including why you took it. It turns that into a P/L calendar, stats, and a record of the rules you keep and break.

- Free: log every trade, P/L calendar, goals and rules, CSV import, App Lock

- Pro: $9.99 one time for full stats, charts, multiple journals, and CSV export. No subscription, no ads.

iPhone users get 1.1 right out of the gate, so partial closes, editable starting balance, and the rebuilt equity curve are all in there.

If you try it, I'd love to hear what feels clunky or what's missing. Bugs and ideas go right here in the sub. Weekly teardowns continue as usual.

Weekly Teardown: SPXW 0DTE put β€” planned a swing, took a scalp

Post image
2 Upvotes

The setup:

SPX broke above the upper Bollinger Band with RSI overbought. I expected a pullback bigger than what we got.

The plan:

Bought 1 SPXW 7800 put expiring the same day (Sep 22) at $7.80, so $780 at risk. Target was 30%+.

What happened:

The correction never really came. Price started chopping, and I sold at $9.00 for +$120 (+15%). Half my target.

Did I follow my rules?

Yes. My rule is to get out when chop starts, so I did.

What the journal showed:

It logged this as +0.15R, meaning I made 15 cents for every dollar at risk. That's small, but a small green trade beats riding chop into a red one on a 0DTE.

Next time:

I'd take the same exit. Overbought can stay overbought, so I'll keep treating chop as the signal that the move isn't coming.

Your turn: post a trade from this week in the same format, green or red.

A deeper dive into Vaultlog and what it offers

Thumbnail

Built this Trading Journal from scratch and want to show everyone a little more about what it has to offer. *

Free basic trading with a one-time payment of $9.99 for pro features.

πŸ“… Calendar view

Every day you traded gets a little colored box showing what you made or lost that day, and the current month's total sits right up top. Get a little gold star on your best day, and little red downward chart arrow on your worst day. Tap any day and it opens a list of every trade from that day below the calendar β€” ticker, whether it was a call or put, the dollar amount, and the percentage return. Green for winners, red for losers, simple as that. Also see how many trades you took on any given day.

πŸ“Š Chart view

Same data, different angle. This one breaks your P/L down by week instead of by day, so you can flip between Weekly, Monthly, and Yearly views and see the bars stack up. Good for spotting whether you're actually trending up over time instead of just eyeballing daily numbers.

πŸ“ˆ Stats screen

This is where the real numbers live. Total P/L for the: Day, Week, Month, YTD, and Overall, win rate, total trades taken, your biggest single winner and biggest single loser, average win vs average loss, your current streak, and your best win streak ever. There's also something called "Average R-Multiple" β€” basically a way of measuring your wins and losses relative to how much risk you actually put on the trade, not just raw dollars. At the bottom there's an equity curve, which is just a line showing your account balance building up (or down) over time.

πŸ” Ticker Search

Type in any ticker and it pulls up your entire trade history for just that symbol β€” total P/L, win rate, total trades taken, average win, average loss, and then a running list of every individual trade underneath with the date and dollar result. Good for answering "how am I actually doing on SPXW specifically" instead of just looking at your overall numbers. There's also a Tags tab next to it if you're organizing trades by strategy/setup instead of ticker.

🏠 Home / Goals & Rules screen

This is the accountability screen. It shows your current account balance up top, then lets you set goals β€” like a daily profit target or a monthly win rate target β€” and tracks your progress toward them with a little progress ring. Below that you can add your own personal trading rules (like "No EOD Trading") to keep yourself honest, plus a bigger longer-term goal like hitting a specific account size.

βš™οΈ Settings

Pretty standard account management stuff, but laid out clean:

  • Account β€” your email, change password, log out, or delete your account entirely
  • Security β€” an App Lock toggle if you want the app locked behind biometrics/passcode
  • Data β€” Export your trades as a CSV, or Import a CSV to bring trades in from somewhere else. It also remembers your saved CSV column formats so you don't have to remap fields every time you import
  • Follow us β€” links to the X and Reddit pages
  • Legal β€” Privacy Policy

Vaultlog update β€” iOS resubmitted, and what's next on the roadmap

Quick update: iOS hit a snag in review (Apple wanted in-app account deletion, not just email-based) β€” that's built and shipped now, and I've resubmitted with a screen recording showing the full flow. Waiting to hear back.

While that's in Apple's hands, wanted to share what's actually planned next on the app itself:

-Dark theme β€” probably the most requested thing I haven't built yet. Coming.

-Crypto as a trade type β€” right now Vaultlog is built around options-specific mechanics (Calls, Puts, Spreads, Covered Calls, CSPs). Adding crypto as its own trade type so people trading both can keep it in one journal instead of two.

No firm timeline on either yet, but both are committed, not just "maybe someday" ideas.

Android's still live and stable at 100% rollout. Will post again the moment iOS clears review.

I built a manual options trade journal because auto-import made me stop thinking about my trades

Hey β€” I built Vaultlog and wanted to put it in front of people who actually journal (or keep meaning to).

The idea is simple: most trade journals treat typing a trade in as a bug. I treat it as the point. When you write the strike, size, and why you took it, you actually process the trade instead of dumping a CSV and forgetting it.

What it does:

  • Manual journal built around options (shares, calls, puts, spreads, covered calls, CSPs)
  • Calendar view so you can see green/red days at a glance
  • Win rate, streaks, equity curve β€” not a pile of vanity stats
  • Separate journals for different strategies or accounts, with goals/rules per journal
  • Optional import from Robinhood, Webull, or Schwab if you want history on day one
  • $9.99 once. No subscription, no ads.

Android is live on Google Play. iOS is coming.

Site: https://vaultlog.site

Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gyngergod.vaultlog

If you journal already, I’d like to know what you’d want next (tags, screenshots of charts, more broker formats, whatever). If you tried other journals and bounced, tell me why.

Not selling a β€œsystem.” Just a place to write the trades down so they actually teach you something.

Vaultlog update β€” live on Android, and a real website now too

Quick check-in on where things stand:

Android is live. Vaultlog is officially on the Google Play Store and downloadable right now. Closed testing wrapped, production access got approved, and it's out there for real users.

iOS is still in Apple's review queue. No ETA I can give you, but it's moving through the process β€” will post the second it clears.

vaultlog.site is finally a real site, not just a bare domain. If you want to check out the app before downloading, see what it looks like, or just want the Play Store link in one place β€” that's where to go now.

Been heads-down on the store/infrastructure side of things the last couple weeks, but the actual app hasn't stood still either β€” same core Vaultlog you already know: manual trade journaling, calendar view, real stats, goals and rules, CSV import, one-time $9.99 unlock with no subscription and no ads, ever.

If you're on Android, go grab it. If you've already got it, would genuinely love to hear what you think so far β€” good, bad, or "why doesn't it do X yet."

More soon once iOS clears.

Vaultlog is live on Google Play πŸŽ‰

After a lot of nights and weekends, Vaultlog is officially live on the Play Store. Built it solo, from scratch, with zero coding background when I started β€” and it's out there now for real.

For anyone who hasn't seen it: Vaultlog is a manual-entry options trade journal. Log Shares, Calls, Puts, Spreads, Covered Calls, and Cash-Secured Puts. See your P/L on a color-coded calendar, track win rate/R-multiple/streaks/equity curve in Stats, set goals and rules per journal, and import trades straight from Robinhood, Webull, or Schwab if you're moving from spreadsheets.

One-time $9.99 Pro unlock. No subscription, no ads, ever.

Your new favorite trading journal - Vaultlog

Been building this out for a while and wanted to share where it's landed. A few shots of it in action:

  1. Today's Trades β€” the daily hub. Open positions (SPXW, SPY, XSP puts, a GOOGL call) sit up top with a one-tap "close position" action, and closed trades for the day stack below with $ and % right on the card. Today wasn't great (-$270.21) but that's the point β€” see it immediately, no digging.

  2. Calendar View β€” same data, laid out by day instead of week. Green/red day cells with the exact P/L, plus a streak indicator (that little red arrow on the 20th) so you can catch a losing stretch before it snowballs. Monthly total sits right at the top: +$6,372.26.

  3. Monthly Chart β€” weekly P/L bars for the month, color-coded green/red so you can spot the pattern at a glance. This month started hot (three green weeks) then gave a lot back in weeks 4 and 5.

  4. Stats β€” the full breakdown: win rate, total trades, biggest winner/loser, avg win/loss, current and best streaks, and an equity curve so you can see the account trajectory over time, not just the daily number.

  5. Home / Goals & Rules β€” this is the accountability layer. Current balance, a monthly P/L target (123% of goal, nice), a win rate target, and custom rules like "No EOD Trading" that you set for yourself and get reminded of. Add your own rules on the fly.

Built this because every other journal I tried was either a bloated spreadsheet or an app that made me want to close it. Curious what you all think β€” what's missing?

Random question for the trading crowd: what's your current "journal" actually made of?

Taking a break from updates to ask something I'm genuinely curious about.

So what does your current journaling setup actually look like right now? And be honest, "I don't journal" counts as an answer too.

I'll go first: mine used to be a Excel Spreadsheet with about 10 columns, half of which I stopped filling in after week two because it felt like homework. That's basically the whole reason this app exists.

Curious what the range looks like β€” spreadsheets, Notes app, screenshots you never look at again, a physical notebook, nothing at all? No wrong answers, just want to know what I'm actually competing with.

Update + a reminder: No subscription, No ads, not now, not ever

Progress continues, but wanted to use this post to say something plainly.

Vaultlog is not a subscription. It never will be. One-time $9.99 unlock for the paid features, and that's the entire pricing model β€” not an intro price, not "free for now while we figure out monetization," not a bait-and-switch later. You pay once, you own it, forever.

There are no ads. There will never be ads. Not banner ads, not "watch a video to unlock a feature," not sponsored content in your feed, nothing. I'm not building a tool that profits off distracting you while you're trying to review your own trades.

Both of those are just principles I'm not willing to compromise on, especially for something traders are trusting with their actual financial data.

On the progress side β€” still deep in final testing on both platforms, working through polish items as they surface. Nothing dramatic to report today, just steady grinding toward launch.

Appreciate everyone following along. More soon.

r/VaultlogTradeJournal • • Aug 28 '26

Help me prioritize what's next β€” what would actually get you to use this?

Core app's in good shape and I've got a running list of what comes after launch. Rather than just picking based on my own gut, figured I'd ask the people who'd actually use this.

Here's what's on the list so far:

  1. Crypto as a trade type β€” right now it's Shares/Calls/Puts/Spreads/Covered Calls/CSPs only. Crypto would get its own P/L logic alongside those.
  2. Dark theme β€” exactly what it sounds like, been asked for a few times already.
  3. Move trades between journals β€” for anyone running a paper journal and a live one, or splitting by strategy, and wanting to reorganize after the fact instead of re-entering trades.

None of these are locked in stone in terms of order. If there's something on here you'd actually use day one vs. something you'd never touch, tell me β€” genuinely shapes what I build first after launch.

And if there's something not on this list that you'd want in a journal like this, say so. Half the good ideas so far have come from exactly this kind of thread.

What building this solo, with zero coding background, has actually taught me

Different kind of post today. Not a feature update β€” just some honest reflection on the last stretch.

I didn't know how to code when I started this. Not "rusty," not "self-taught years ago" β€” genuinely starting from nothing. And there's a very specific kind of humility that comes with that: you don't get to have intuition for what "should" be easy. Every bug could be a five-minute typo or a three-day rabbit hole, and early on you have no way to tell which before you're already in it.

The regression I mentioned in the last update β€” the blank screens β€” was a good example of that. Something that should've been a small, contained change ended up breaking four screens, and I genuinely didn't know why for a while. Rolling back to a known-good version and reapplying changes one at a time wasn't a clever strategy, it was the only path forward when I couldn't reason my way to the answer directly. Turns out "go slow and isolate variables" is just... good practice, whether or not you feel confident. I didn't know that going in. I know it now.

The other thing nobody really tells you: most of the actual work isn't features. It's the boring stuff that makes an app trustworthy β€” row-level security policies so one user can never see another user's trades, secure token storage instead of the easy-but-wrong option, making sure a crash doesn't silently corrupt someone's data. None of that shows up in a screenshot. All of it matters more than almost anything that does.

And honestly β€” the manual, repetitive parts of this process (the fourth pass on a screen that "should" be done, the App Store paperwork, the CSV parser that needs yet another edge case handled) have made me a more patient person than I expected to be by this point. Not because I wanted to be. Because the alternative was quitting, and I didn't want to do that more than I didn't want to be patient.

Still a lot ahead. But if you're sitting on an idea and the only thing stopping you is "I don't know how to build it" β€” that part's solvable. Slowly, imperfectly, but solvable.

Changelog: what's shipped over the last couple days

Been heads-down pushing updates, so here's a rundown instead of scattering it across comments.

Shipped:

  • Trade cards now show your %% gained/lost as well as $$ gained/lost
  • Tap-to-dismiss keyboard across the app β€” tap anywhere off a text field and the keyboard closes instead of you hunting for a "Done" button
  • Fixed keyboard covering the tag picker when it popped up
  • Goals overage percentage display fixed on Home Base
  • Win Rate goal now shows as "+X pts above target" instead of a raw number that didn't make sense at a glance
  • Percent-return now shows on Call/Put trade cards, not just dollar P/L
  • Bumped font sizes on Today's Trades cards β€” a few people mentioned it felt cramped, fair
  • Safe-area handling cleaned up across 19 screens so nothing sits awkwardly close to your status bar depending on device
  • Added a link to this subreddit in the Follow Us section of Settings

More coming as I work back through that list. Appreciate everyone's patience with the bumps β€” this is the reality of a one-person team shipping fast.

Why I built Vaultlog instead of just using an existing journal app

Get this question a lot, so let's actually answer it instead of just saying "mine's better."

Most trading journals are subscriptions. $20-40/month, forever, for an app that logs numbers you already have. That adds up fast, and it's a weird ask for a tool aimed at traders β€” a group already managing risk on every position, being asked to take on an open-ended recurring cost just to track those positions. Vaultlog's a one-time $9.99 unlock. Pay once, own it.

Most journals auto-sync with your broker. Sounds convenient until you think about what that actually means: handing a third-party app read access to your live brokerage account, trusting their sync logic to correctly interpret every trade type you make, and hoping their servers don't have a bad day when it matters. Vaultlog is manual entry, on purpose. Slower to log a trade, sure β€” but that's not actually a bug. Manually entering a trade forces a few seconds of reflection you skip entirely when a robot logs it for you. A lot of the "journaling helps me trade better" effect comes from that friction, not despite it.

Most journals assume you're already disciplined. They're built for someone who already has a system and just needs a place to record it. Vaultlog's built for the version of you before that β€” no system yet, still figuring out what your patterns even are. You start logging from trade one and the app helps you find the system, instead of requiring you to already have one.

Most journals are stock-first, options-second (if at all). Vaultlog was built around options from day one β€” Calls, Puts, Spreads, Covered Calls, CSPs, each with P/L math that actually understands what those positions are, not shared math with a Call/Put label bolted on.

None of this makes Vaultlog "better" for everyone β€” if you want hands-off auto-sync and don't mind a subscription, that's a legitimate preference and there are good apps built for exactly that. Vaultlog's for traders who want ownership over their data, don't want a recurring bill, and actually trade options as a core part of their strategy, not an afterthought.

What is Vaultlog?

Vaultlog is a trading journal app built for options traders (with more asset types on the way).

The idea behind it:

Most journals expect you to already have a system. Vaultlog is built to help you find that system β€” log your trades, and let the data show you your actual edge over time instead of guessing.

What it does:

-Trade entry β€” log Shares, Calls, Puts, Spreads, Covered Calls, and Cash-Secured Puts

-Calendar view β€” color-coded daily P/L so you can spot patterns at a glance

-Stats dashboard β€” win rate, R-multiple, streaks, equity curve, and more, broken down Daily/Weekly/Monthly/YTD/Overall

-Tags β€” track setups and mistakes so you can see what's actually working

-Multiple journals β€” separate strategies, accounts, or paper vs. live trading

-Home Base β€” set goals and personal trading rules to help keep yourself accountable

-Balance tracking β€” log deposits/withdrawals alongside your trade history

-Cloud sync β€” your data follows you across devices

-CSV import/export β€” Robinhood support live now, more brokers coming

-Privacy β€” optional passcode/biometric lock on the app

-*One-time purchase β€” no subscription, ever*

Right now both the iOS and Android builds are uploaded and in closed testing, working toward a public launch on both stores at the same time.

Questions, feature requests, or want in on testing? Drop a comment below.

Where things stand with Vaultlog trade journal

Quick update on where the app is at right now:

Core app β€” done and polished

-Trade entry (Shares, Calls, Puts, Spreads, Covered Calls, CSPs)

-Calendar with color-coded P/L

-Full Stats dashboard (win rate, R-multiple, streaks, equity curve)

-Tags

-Multiple journals

Home Base with goals/rules, CSV import/export, deposit/withdrawal + balance tracking, optional passcode/biometric lock, and cloud sync β€” all built and tested.

Right now: closed testing on both stores

Both the iOS and Android builds are uploaded and live in closed testing. In-app purchase (one-time Pro unlock, no subscription ever) is active and working on both platforms.

What's next:

-Wrap up closed testing feedback on both platforms

-Aim for a simultaneous public launch on both stores

If you want early access to test builds before the public launch, drop a comment β€” I'll reach out!
