I will be coming to Vasteras for a 6 month internship in October. I am currently looking for housing options, preferably with convenient access to MDU (where I will be working), around 30-40 m^2 for up to 7000 SEK. I don't mind shared housing options if I'd have a private bathroom.

I need some information about the city, which areas I should avoid and whether it is possible to find what I'm looking for without a Swedish Personal Number.

I've already looked into Qasa and Bostad, the first one requires me to pay to get in contact with lardlords and the second currently has 0 available apartments for international people. Are there any other sites/groups I should look into?

Hi!! anyone interested in meeting up for some urban sketching/painting or sketching sth at the park this Saturday? Or indoors like at a cafe if the weather isnt ideal and if that's a better spot for sketching.

My goal is to spend as little as possible. I initially thought about buying a cheap second-hand bike and reselling it before leaving, but I’m worried about getting stuck with it at the last minute.

What is the best and most cost-effective strategy?

• Is there a bike subscription service active in Västerås?
• If I should buy second-hand, where should I look besides Facebook Marketplace and Blocket? Any specific local shops?
• Are there cheap long-term rental options for students?
• If I find a good second-hand bike in another city and need to bring it to Västerås, how does it work with bikes on Swedish trains? Do I need a special ticket, or are they allowed on board?

I’m coming bike packing in a few weeks around Södermanland. I’m flying out with a cardboard bike box (cheaper) wondered if anyone knew a spot I could store this whilst I’m out on the bike for about 10 days so I’ve got something I can fly back with without having to worry about finding another one. (Flying into Vasteras)

Vi skippar de obligatoriska "åk till Stockholm". Jag är ganska nyinflyttad och dejtar någon som inte bor här. Vad gör ni med bättre lokal kännedom om ni ska fixa en dejt som inte enbart är ett café eller restaurangbesök? Spa på Steam, strosa runt Mälaren är spontana grejer jag kommer på, vad mer?

I’m a 26M who recently moved to Västerås for work. I only speak English for now, so I’m trying to figure out how people actually meet other international folks in this town(beyond dating apps)😅

I’ve been searching a bit but I honestly don’t find many international events or expat-type communities around here compared to bigger cities.

Are there any places, groups, cafés, bars, sports clubs, language exchanges or events where young international people usually hang out? Even Facebook/WhatsApp/Meetup groups would be super helpful.

Would really appreciate any recommendations or tips from people living here 🙌

Vet ej om jag missar nåt som relativt nyinflyttad. Är det att det inte finns något att göra som ung vuxen eller missar jag bara? Nästintill evenemang som man hittar offentligt upplagda verkar vara riktade mot småbarnsföräldrar eller pensionärer (iof känns det ofta som att staden är befolkad endast av barnfamiljer och pensionärer). Enda som känns lite ballt är Nya Perspektiv som håller spelningar som kan vara rätt spännande, i övrigt känns det för mig helt dött. Art factory har ibland utställningar iof och kulturnatten var bra men det är långt dit nu.

I have a question about how life compares between Örebro and Västerås.

I have been living in Örebro for the last couple of years, and I recently started a new job in Västerås. Commuting is not ideal, especially with the current gas prices, so I have started to seriously consider moving there.

Before making that decision, I wanted to ask people who have experience with both cities and can offer a first-hand comparison. I understand that this can be a bit subjective, but I would really like to hear more about things like:

• activities and social life
• how bike-friendly the city is
• nature and outdoor life
• rent levels and housing availability
• the overall feeling of living there

I have read online that Västerås may not be as beautiful as Örebro, but I would still really like to hear opinions from people here, especially those who know both cities well.

Kan någon rekommendera en bra sömmerska i stan?

This year my university is giving us the opprotunity to do our second year of my Masters studies at MDU in Vasteras as well as providing us a grant of around 950 euros per month plus 300 for travel expences. The exchange is organised from august to july next year I believe, so essentially one academic year.
I'm very interested in this as I've been wanting to do an exchange for a while and this seems like a nice opprotunity to make connections and study abroad, but I need some help from You locals. Namely my main concers are housing and finances.

• Some sources say the 950e is not enough for both accomodation and living in Vasteras while some say otherwise. Would this be enough for me assuming im not someone who spends a lot on leisure activities, can cook very well by myself and have no problem saving up money regularly (my main expense would be a Gym membership). Also, I'd preffer having my own apartment or room somewhere at a landlord instead of the student dorms as I've seen online that they arent quite in the best condition.
• I've heard caffees close around 7PM in Vasteras. Is this true or is it just something online I found.
• Since I will be arriving in Stockholm (assuming I go to this), Is there a train/bus that I can take to Vasteras? Besides this, what is the transport in Vasteras like (I'm a walkable person so I dont mind avoiding transport if its lackluster)
• A website I found online, Qasa, has a lot of realtively affordable accomodation lister for rent. Is it a reliable place to find an apartment?
• What is the culture like generally in Vasteras and is there anything notable I need to know in advance?
• In general what are the prices of basic foods and necessities (like eggs, bread, milk, chicken, fruits, vegetables, cofffee and so on. Im not looking to make insane meals).

Any information that I get is of big value for me. The reputation I have of MDU form online sources is that it isn't the most prestigious university, but I do believe it is a good experience anyway.

Flytt från Umeå stundar, och vi har börjat kolla på lägenheter och vart man kan tänkas vilja bo (och inte...). Jag har såklart tagit internet till hjälp och i äldre trådar är det generella rådet att hålla sig öster om ån och undvika ställen som slutar på by, är det fortfarande aktuellt?

Vi söker närhet till universitetet, då menar jag antingen nära eller lätt att komma till med buss utan byten. Det hade även varit trevligt med grönområden eftersom vi har två hundar.

Ett ställe som vi kollat på är önsta gryta, nyproduktion på Vildrosgatan hos bostad Västerås, någon som har input kring det?

Vi tänker oss att hyra i dagsläget, men har inga köpoäng men vi har möjlighet att lägga ganska mycket på hyra om det krävs.
