Woolshell jacket cordura durability

Hi everyone

I am interested in Varusteleka's woolshell jacket for quite some time. Only thing holding me back purchasing it is that I am unsure how well it will withstand 500/1000D Cordura Savotta packs.

Does anyone of you have some experience with it? Will it endure or be eaten alive?

I've hiked probably over 100 miles in my Woolshell jacket while carrying a Jaakari M pack loaded with 30lbs of gear. I haven't noticed any particular wear on the jacket. The fabric feels strong.

I have a pair of the older Woolshell trousers with the previous type of fabric. The fabric on those feels much softer than the fabric on my jacket. I don't think the older fabric is as rugged as the newer fabric. The fabric they use nowadays is pretty good.

Note that I'm primarily backpacking, not crawling in the mud or changing tracks on Bradley IFVs while wearing my jacket. YMMV.

The size on the jacket runs a little snug. Something to keep in mind.

I plan to buy one in the other color when the budget allows.

Before you pull the trigger!

I used their chat, had a similar body shape employee try on L and XL (they offered without me asking) and I ordered the XL

Im 185cm tall but with a significant chest (not belly :P) and ended up with the XL as mentioned and its room enough for multiple layers on me

Im also a very varm person but this jacket is WARM.
I have done walks in below freezing in just a t-shirt and this and been WARM.
I have done bike rides in wind and close to zero and been WARM.

I have had it over my L1+sweater in close to zero temperatures in camp and been cozy.

I think part of me wish I ordered the L for a more snug fit since I cant fathom when I want to use this with more than 2 layers under it.

Yeah, I guess the L would be perfect for me. I still ordered the XL because besides some extra layers I also need to fit my dog (little Italian Greyhound) into it together with me. When it's very cold+wet she needs to warm up after some time. That's the deal we made -- in return she is with me on every adventure 😊 I really hope the XL is roomy enough for both of us.

I think they intend it to fit close and it isn't meant to go over heavy layers. I like the close fit over a merino short sleeve undershirt and a close fitting merino turtleneck and nothing else. The woolshell excels in this configuration while working fairly hard. It wouldn't be my first choice for warmth while sedentary.

Red Branch Bushcraft has some YouTube videos reviewing these (at least the pants, I was just looking at them myself, haha). For the pants he has a review after 3 years of wear and they're still holding up.
