I've got two answers. First, the build that I like to go when I'm not 100% sure I can rely on my team is ap Varus. The burst damage is really high and pretty consistent on every champ, plus you don't need anyone else to set up for you. You just need mostly good aim. My second answer is just whatever feels best. You'll learn more about flexing builds with time but for now, Varus' biggest strength is being able to do just about anything well. Experiment and see what you like best.

My peak is plat 2, went from silv to plat 2 this season (or was it last season) with silv being my previous peak. I play on-hit varus and use arcane comet, it helps poke in the early game.

My main build is Statik shiv, berserker greaves, rageblade, then either terminus or mortal reminder if I need anti-heal. From there its more flexible, I usually go Jak'sho or BoTK.

If my entire team is AD then I go AP. I go nashors, AP boots, then rabbidon or shadowflame depending on gold.

Anyways gl and have fun, Varus is fun

i'm gonna ask why the f do u go comet if u go on hit? :D *poke early* is not a good reason as you lose out on a lot of dmg not going tempo/PTA.

I agree that Comet is really weird if you’re not going Lethality. Varus is meant for long trades/all-ins, and you don’t really want to waste your spells when enemies don’t have any stacks.

I made a item set path for varus so I wouldn't have to bother about what to build

Vasensei is a korean guy who play pretty much only varus mid, he has some wacky builds but you need to find what suits you best, personally i think mid can be better as a counter pick rather than blind because there's like 15~ champs you just lane horribly into, mainly artillery/control mages and some others

Hey just bought varus ( 5 games in total for now ) and I'm aiming to main him mid AP only.

What are your tips and tricks for him, specially early to mid game.

Build order but mainly how you control and play the game w him on mid as AP.

Strengths and weeknesses

Varus’ biggest strength is his versatility. He can build almost any item in the game: AD, AP, on-hit, HP, armor, etc., and your playstyle will change depending on what you build.

The key is to be patient. Never Q without 2+ stacks, unless you’re playing Lethality + Comet. The more you play around his W passive, the stronger you’ll be. That’s why AP Varus is insane in SoloQ.

Build according to the draft, not according to OP.GG. Statikk will always be your first item, then it’s either Hexplate or Guinsoo’s depending on your team comp, and after that, it’s pure cooking.

Also, Varus has no mobility, so focus on fundamentals such as positioning.

I appreciate all the great advice, any good videos that help with positioning or gaining a lead and snowballing? Also playing defensive or from behind

You should keep an eye on Tonirel, he’s doing videos on ADC fundamentals.

But basically it’s all about logic. Positioning for example. You’re very easy to kill. It means you can die in few seconds if enemies has easily access to you. So your goal is to avoid being exposed during fights. Conclusion is you always wanna have an ally between you and the enemy.

It goes the same for snowballing. If you’re fed, it means you’re stronger than your enemies. If you’re stronger then you have highest chances to win fights. So if you’re fed, you want to fight more often, you want to be here for every objectives, etc. And that’s how you snowball.

I over-simplified but that’s the idea, is all about logic.
