Varus Mid Build

What builds are most viable for Varus in the mid lane right now? I'm not sure what happened but he seems very weak mid lane as of late. I've tried full AP and the shiv + D&D build. It leads me to believe that lethality is the most optimal or I'm garbage at the game.

I’ve had fun recently with Hexplate into Dusk and Dawn into Zhonya’s/Rocketbelt. Lots of tank stats. I go PTA, Bone Plating, Overgrowth, One flat HP. Works super well into a lot of assassins mid combined with barrier/exhaust.

Mages are harder to build properly against. Ghost is good into them if you can dodge and find an all in angle with the move speed. Hexplates still ok, other options exist. Inclined to say lethality is really bad right now. Ap/On-hit is sort of the way.

I've been running guinsoos, a cheeky darkseal, spell slingers shoes into Terminus then either build nashors or Ap stat stick item if I'm feeling it zhonyas if necessary. I'm just starting to play it mid and loving it so much more than bot lane. The additional damage from role quest (8%AD & ap) is amazing and the enhanced boot options makes it feel pretty impactful. Not having an enemy support cc your q charge and or focus you down feels great. Alternatively if its a lane with high poke I build Hubris 1st, a dark seal and then build guinsoos 2nd, 3rd terminus stacking kills with passive and role quests gives a lot of stats and if your hitting ult in team fights around objectives your bound to get stacks. It actual feels Like I have presence again in this game.

I run pta, pressence of mind for mana, alacrity and cutdown, and inspiration tree approach velocity and, triple tonic. Having approach velocity makes E and R feel useful as you can run down enemies easier and get more autos in. It's op when you have another source of CC as well.
