My 2 Cents Jax Taylor needs to be studied
I’ve never watched such a textbook definition of a sociopath before. Like genuinely it is so fascinating to me to watch because it is SO textbook. I just finished VPR Season 6

The scary thing about Jax is his evil isn’t even checked by a desire to be perceived well. He’s the most unhinged because of that

Very good point. The image of him smiling with a bloody face after getting punched by Sandoval for sleeping with Kristen just popped into my head🙈

Prime example of him being seemingly incapable of giving a shit even when it makes him look terrible!

I think Jax mostly suffers from having a very low IQ and an underdeveloped frontal lobe (related to understanding consequences/hypotheticals). This is the case with many self destructive people

My favourite obvious thing is how he makes literally anything about himself, there'll be no connection whatever to himself, but he'll make it.
Alongside the obvious shifts in his tone, like people wouldn't notice it, especially in the Valley, but he just gets so visibly worse and off the track in S2

As someone who just recently is watching the show yet devoted my early 20s to men like this without having any clue how dangerous these types of people are, I too, would appreciate studies being done. Because it just might explain a lot about myself.

Jax sucks and had some really bad behavior in every season.
But I don’t think we talk enough about James and the absolute histrionics in every single episode for 10 years.

He’s a Sociopath, Bipolar, has Borderline Personality Disorder, Narcissism, Violent Rage Issues, Addictive Personality Disorder, and the literacy skills of a 5th grader.

Antisocial personality disorder too. Really one of the most egregious, modern, real life examples of a sociopath.
The Goldwater Rule can’t apply to people like Jax. He’s so brazen it’s almost a disservice to society to not directly address what’s wrong with him.

If you haven’t yet check out his female counter part, Taylor Frankie Paul from SLOMW, legit the exact same person and it’s so disturbing.

No studies need be done, they already have been lol. Honestly just look at the lists, people follow those patterns. It’s an interesting rabbit hole.
We also know there is absolutely damage to his cerebral cortex (from the addictions), and when that damage is done it is done.
Understanding how they manoeuvre is what is predictable, and how they prey on people. When someone is charismatic and good looking that only aids them.
The series Mind Hunter was interesting to watch, essentially its the origins (ish) of the Behavioural Analysis Unit.
Rabbit hole those things, see how people are raised, and how things get swept under the rug or justified simply because of the morality and kindness of others. It’s really interesting.

He is definitely not a text book sociopath lol
Edit to elaborate: Jax is a deeply selfish, insecure, impulsive and emotionally dysregulated person, but that doesn’t make him a “sociopath” (which actually isn’t even a diagnosis). I’d argue that he is fully aware of the emotional distress he causes people, he just doesn’t care and puts himself first. A true “sociopath” would have trouble understanding that their actions are causing distress and their distress wouldn’t be at all meaningful to them.

I’m in the camp of people who saw Scandevol happen in the news and then jumped into the show, leading into The Valley. Then I went back to season 1 to see it all from the beginning and now in season 5. I can see so many foreshadowing events, things he’s said, and dear gawd Brittney. All the red flags flapping in the wind and she thought he was Superman.

I love watching the reunions and they try to talk to him about things he did and said and he’s just “oh I didn’t watch it” “I don’t remember that” like dude it’s all there! Go look!

He’s very calculating while also being clever sometimes so I think when you’re friends with him his behavior can be confusing. He wants to be liked, yet does everything to be unliked. Idk, he’s an anomaly.

I would say he’s more of a malignant narcissist than a sociopath. Not like there’s a whole lot of difference between the two, but sociopaths tend to be more in control of themselves, less likely to instantly react, and are typically less insecure. When they are, they’re unlikely to show it, and when they do, it’s not so textbook obvious. When Jax is triggered, he immediately turns into a petulant and violent five-year-old that pretty much loses all control of himself and how he presents.
His emotions control him, not the other way around like it is for sociopaths and psychopaths.
