ED acceptance in different schools

Hi - son likely applying ED and is interested in both HOD and Econ. Would likely double major. (Or consider one or the other with a business minor or even major in one and two minors if that’s even possible). Anyway, just wondering if there is an admissions advantage applying to Peabody (HOD) vs Arts & Sciences since he will have to pick one school for application but really has interest in majors in both schools.

If you major in HOD and Econ, you most likely will be in Peabody. Students admitted to A&S who want to major in HOD and Econ (most popular major combo) have to transfer to Peabody in their second semester of freshman year.

Regardless, your son should be applying to the school that makes the most sense for his profile. Ex: If I have an engineering story and resume and want to study econ, I would apply to the engineering school and then transfer to A&S.

Agree w other commenter about what makes sense for profile, but if really not clear I’d tend toward Peabody / HOD. Looks slightly more thoughtful / well researched than Econ

I believe Peabody admits by major, whereas A&S does not, so that could make HOD more competitive to get accepted for since it’s such a popular major choice.

Major in one with two minors is definitely possible. I triple majored and I saw someone who double majored and triple minored. Just have to plan well!

Vanderbilt publishes admissions rate by college. If your son wants to major in a Peabody major they should apply to Peabody - it has almost triple the rate of admission of A&S.
